Austin leaves Missouri State basketball team

    The Capital-Journal

    Published Friday, January 04, 2008

Lamont Austin, an All-State player for Highland Park, has left the Missouri State basketball team for personal reasons, MSU coach Barry Hinson announced Thursday in a release.

The freshman guard broke his foot in practice Dec. 9, had surgery Dec. 14 and wasn't expected to play again this season after playing a total of 14 minutes in two of the Bears' first seven games. He had two rebounds and no points.

Hinson said Austin won't return to school for the spring semester.

"We gave him some academic parameters that he was not willing to meet," Hinson told the Springfield News-Leader.

I don't blame him, take the spring semester off, catch back up with Summer School, and try to get back to Basketball next fall.

Sounds like he might not be the "student" in student athlete.

"Austin was one of three Bears arrested on Nov. 12 in connection with a theft investigation and was suspended from the team. No charges were filed against Austin." Springfield News Leader.

He was on our recruiting list two years ago. Looks to me like MSU finished in last place in the race for Lamont.

Austin spent two years at Howard JC and has now committed to Morehead State.
