  • Those comparing this team to last year. Are you comparing them to the team that won the NIT or the one that lost to SIU at home? The one that ranUNI off the court or the one that showed up in St. Louis?

I think we've had two mediocre performances in PR. We got away with it in the Colorado game because we are so much better. We didn't pull it off against Alabama because they are a very good team. Is there anyone that doesn't believe we could have won that game last night.

Everybody remembers games 33-37 of last year. We've played 3 this year. They will get nothing but better as the season progresses.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

    • We got beat by a very good team. Obviously, we had tons of trouble handling their pressure which contributed to the 14 blocks and 18 turnovers. At this point in time we simply do not have the depth nor the experience that we had last year underneath the basket.

It is early, but unfortunately not early in our non-conference schedule. Within a short 21 days we will have played the majority of those games we need to win. We have a lot of learning and growing to do in three short weeks and hopefully we will recover from last nights loss and come back strong on Sunday.

      • I have all of a sudden turned into an A-L-A-B-A-M-A fan much like I rooted for UConn last year after Maui.

Easy on #5. Are you comparing this team to the team last year who lost at home to SIU and some other inferior teams or to the NIT tourney team that beat Bama, Washington State, and Virginia Tech? Last years team had ups and downs on offense but they put it all together in the NIT. This game is one game against a better defensive team than the SIU and ISU teams of last year. It's a long season and we will have our ups and downs this year too. Hopefully, we are more consistent in conference play and late in the season.

It's true. I didn't hear it when I watched it live, but I just watched a replay of the game on espn3 and you can definitely hear the NIT, NIT chant with :37.1 seconds left in the game.

It is embarrassing. I hope most people didn't hear it when they watched the game.
Was wondering why I didn't here it, I turned off the game with about 40 seconds left. But I also heard from friends at the game about the embarrassing chants. We had some clueless Shocker fans in Maui, I'm guessing there's a very good chance it could have been some of the same...but were just able to get other people to join in with them this time.

                  • I was surprised that we didn't seem prepared for Alabama's press and trap. And we didn't adjust. That rests a little bit on the coaches I think. And/or our guards aren't as good at handling the ball as we thought.

                    • IMHO -- Bama's defense was substantially better than UConn's defense in the Maui tournament last year. Matter of fact, I don't think I have seen that good of defense in a long, long while. They were excellent in the press, got their arses back when it was beat and absolutely terrorized the paint; double and triple teaming the bigs while cutting off the inside-out pass. It really was a thing of beauty actually.

True, if we were hitting our threes it would have been a different game, but their defense was so well organized and quick that it forced us to take quick, long, panicky threes. That we had to rely on making threes to stay in the game says a LOT about their defense, IMO.

If they keep that up and get their offense firing, you could be looking at a final four team in my opinion.

                      • 4 things happened:

                        1) Stutz got into foul trouble
                        2) WSU couldn't hit FT's
                        3) Kyles couldn't make a shot
                        4) Smith's shot was off

WSU could have survived 2 of those and still won the game. 3 of those happening on the same night against a very good team, and it would have been a close game. All 4 happening against a good team and it's a loss.

In the overall scheme of things, the lost opportunity is probably worse than the loss. Colorado losing to Maryland didn't help in the "opportunity" department.

                        • Alabama kicked our butts last night. Not sure we win the NIT if this Alabama team was in that NIT Championship game. OTOH, I'm pretty sure this Alabama team would not have been in the NIT last year.

Still, as poorly as we played and as poorly as we shot free throws we hung right with the Tide for about 32 minutes (down 53-49 with 8 minutes to go). This was not a blow out. Shocks actually battled pretty well. Toure and Carl in particular were warriors.

A win over Temple tomorrow, which will be anything but easy, and I think we will be feeling pretty good about the Shocks coming home 2-1 . No doubt, we need to play well and get more out of Garrett, DK and D-Will and perhaps even Joe to make that happen.

Glad we get a day off to regroup. Looking forward to seeing how the Shocks respond.

                          • Almost looked like the team had gorged itself at a big buffet just before the game, while Bama was told they could have a big buffet after the game if they could handle the Shocks. (Anyone remember the 2006 trip to Vegas and what happened the day after the buffet team meal)?

I think Bama was told they could have big buffet during the game.
