Here is the formula used to get the Prouty Ratings.

Prouty Rating = [Offensive Efficiency + Total Offense + Possessions Gained + Win Rating] / 4

Offensive Efficiency = TP / (FGA*2 + FTA)
Total Offense = (TP + A*2 - TO) / Player MIN
Possessions Gained = (REB + S + BLK/2 - PF) / Player MIN
Win Rating = Player MIN / (Team MIN / 5) * (Wins / Game #)

Just like an RPI, one should be careful how they view the Prouty Ratings early in the year as the numbers jump all over the place due to W/L %. Murry, who probably had his best game of the season, just slightly better than his second game, had a single game rating 36 points less that than second game, simply because the team lost. His overall rating also went from a solid B to just 5 points above a B- overall rating dropping 20 points. Also, Ragland had his best game of the season, even by Prouty standards with the Shocks losing the game, yet his overall rating dropped 9 points and he stayed as a C. I know the "grade level" is just there to help as a guide to the what the numbers may indicate, but the question is, were there really 7 A level player games in the first 2 games and none in the 3rd? I've just always felt that a player's rating or efficiency should be more of what the player actually did and not whether the team won or lost.

The other odd phenomena is that the current team rating is 1 point higher than any player on the team. One would think that a team rating would be more of an average of the individuals playing the most minutes. As I said, much of this is due to the small game sample. At this point, it's much better to ignore the letter grades altogether and the rating of one player's game to that of another's in a different game. What is informative is the "all games" ranking of players from top to bottom as to who has been the most efficient and who has not.
