That's three straight ROAD Q1 wins in a week
In fairness, the Shocks have been a little lucky in two of those, with key players missing from their opponents. Still, considering some of the breaks they've had (or, in the case of Teddy's excessive quarantine, the breaks they've had imposed upon them) this season, they were due for a bit of good fortune.

But it's also three straight good road wins as a multi-point underdog, and even by increasing margins of victory. The handicappers and bookies know about motivation and all the other factors that go into establishing a betting line, and they're good enough at their jobs to have built lots of fancy sportsbooks with the proceeds of their lines -- yet they've stiill undersold the Shocks, by a lot, in all three games.

I heard some announcer at one point in the game -- I think it may have been the IU radio team (to whom I listened because I was out with the family and KEYN was balking on my phone, so I went behind enemy radio lines and was very impressed with their excellent, almost Kennedyesque, play-by-play description) pull out the old "ball don't lie" line in response to a particular moment in the game. Well, the score doesn't lie either, and the score against the line is less likely still to lie.

So people can scoff at the NIT all they want, and it's true that it doesn't have the significance of the NCAA -- but the simple fact is that the Shocks are blooming brightly where they're planted, and they've been one of the best performers of this postseason so far. It's too bad more people aren't noticing, appreciating the job they've done, and giving credit where it's due.

      • Defense, grit and a refuse to lose attitude. These guys seem to have it. Fun to watch. I love
the way our centers contend most everything. DD playing great defense but so is everyone else.
Knock on wood but when is the last time you have seen anyone drive past ES to the rim ? SHJ
playing pesky D. JB, as well. Just great team defense the past couple months. Name of the
game. Hope the freshmen coming in are taking notice.

        • There has been an enormous amount of angst, despair, name calling, labeling of these kids...sometimes with reason. And yet here they are. Pretty remarkable.

Glad they don't listen to the experts.

          • I’m just having a blast watching this team peak and develop (after watching the La Tech game and 8-11 start). Great to see the seniors go out well and all the returning players develop and pick up steam for next season. Future is bright! Oh and may as well win the darn thing! (Yes I know it’s the NIT but I’m still impressed and happy to see my squad keep playing and developing, kiss my a** haters)

There are always excuses you can throw out for every team. They are still Q1 wins. Saw several fans saying it didn't really count because they were in the NIT and the P5 teams "checked out". Indiana was so "Checked out" they managed to win 2 games before losing a game to us in which they were desperately trying to foul and come back and win.

Yeah, I saw your tweets with that moron. Yeah, why the hell would a young man want to play at MSG? That only happens to everyone. No, it's much more plausible that guys go through the motions with a trip to the Big Apple on the line.

I hope this is about a once-a-decade outcome for us to be in the NIT, but I hope our program and our fanbase NEVER take it for granted. If WSU ever finds itself as the first team out of the NCAA Tournament, our players can gripe and moan for the rest of Selection Sunday but then start preparing to win five games once the sun comes up on Monday. We all get it that success in the NIT is not the ultimate goal, but especially for this season, it's a tremendous building block for the future.

I'd rather be us than Temple right now. Losing in Dayton would suck in epic proportions.

Yes, if they lost in the first round, I might buy it. But you don't "check out" then win two games only to be lazy and not care about the 3rd and final home game.

Life is about winning, or trying your best (a personal form of winning) whether you like it or not. You can quit if you can't take home the big prize, or you can try to win wherever you are at that moment in time.

Somehow, I'd wager that more people will be generally successful in life if they learn to try to win a majority of the time, if not all the time. I could be wrong.

                    But I'm not.

                • Truthfully ...I think Gregg gets his teams more excited then Indiana did... Wichita State wanted it more... Played more team basketball... Made more winning plays... Just wanted it more

I believe they figured out they can WIN if they play his system. It's always more exciting to win! "Don't let anyone tell you that it isn't a lot more fun... to win!"

Time to clear E. Wessels locker out? It could be.

                • Their post man is really good. He can dribble. That's a HUGE advantage when you roll to the hoop. Painful to watch Etch try to do it.

yep, gives Ech some things to work on this summer

                • I think we all knew this was going to be a roller coaster year, full of really bad lows (La Tech, OU) and some good highs (UCF, Temple rematch, NIT). It's been a wild ride as expected.

The growth in this team has been tremendous. It's been said by others, but I concur this is HCGMs finest coaching job.

Now let's go win the whole ****ing thing.

I've never heard of the guy.....anyone who is playing NCAA basketball right now should be excited. This guy is a jackass. I'm super proud of our guys and the turn around they have pulled off.

There are only, what, four teams that end their season with a WIN and get to enjoy that feeling all summer long. It is worth fighting for.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."
