I'm not back in the area until the summer but I am going to try to get 9 people to go in my place. Kids, grandkids, etc. in Wichita = 9 people (youngest is one year old but her "voice" can really carry. ;-) ) Wish me luck.

Sounds like a good decision to push back Shocker Madness a couple of weeks:
The Shockers are easing into a full schedule of practices with individual drills and limited team practices.
Marshall was not pleased with his team last week. He expects a certain amount of over-eagerness as players try to show off new skills and impress coaches. In one session, however, the Shockers made seven baskets and committed 19 turnovers.
That's not what he expected, especially from his veterans. Their play set a bad tone for the newcomers.
"Early practices are usually very ugly, in terms of trying to do too much," he said. "It was brutal. It was so ugly. It wasn't because the defense was that great."
One of the messages that evolved from that disaster is that defense and rebounding comes first, especially for the newcomers.
"I've got to tell these young guys that, 'Here's your deal: None of you are Carmelo Anthony walking in the door,' " Marshall said. "'Don't come in here thinking you're Kevin Durant and you've got to take every shot.' "
Corrective measures are in place for outbreaks of bad decisions.
"They'll get tired of running for their turnovers, pretty quickly," Marshall said. "I'm already tired of it, and I let them know that after practice. But, it's good that you have that in early October or late September."
Perhaps the lack of sharpness lead 3G to push back Shocker Madness a little later than has been the custom.

Every school that I am aware of has these types of events on a Saturday for a reason: they are something that out of town fans and alumni can plan on attending every year.
Out of towners might not be able to make many games, save the ones that fall on weekends, but at least they can make Shocker Madness.
Not anymore.
Between this and the poor quality of Shockervision, the Wichita State athletic department is making it more and more evident that the only people it's concerned with are those who live in Wichita. Great plan. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

1. Change the name. *Insert mascot name here* Madness is a little cliche.
2. More advertising.
Is it free for students? Free for the community? What goes on? What happens?

5:00 to 6:00 pm - Players will be in the concourse and will sign autographs
6:00 - Lady Shocks scrimmage for 20 minutes
Following the Lady Shocks scrimmage their will be ceremony to award the Men's team their NIT Championship rings.
7:00 pm - Men will scrimmage for 40 minutes (in the past they have scrimmaged for 20 minutes)
If you want to see dunks I would suggest you make sure you get their in time to watch the men warm-up before their scrimmage. They put on quite a show last year during warm-ups.

Is it free for students? Free for the community? What goes on? What happens?“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'”

This may be the minority opinion, but I just don't think our fanbase is one that will ever make "Shocker Madness" a standing-room only event, no matter what the athletic department does to promote or energize it.
IIRC, the 2006 Shocker Madness was announced early and fairly well publicized given it's a non-revenue event. What did we get, 6000? 7000 max? The year after a Sweet 16 and having only lost one player. (If someone remembers it differently, please correct me, but I've included a pic below.)
There were less than 6000 in 2007 for Marshall's first year.
That was the litmus test for what our fanbase will produce with effort from the athletics department. It could be better than recent years, but I don't think it will ever have a "wow" factor for fans or recruits.

Too many lights, not enough effects, and DEFINITELY not enough interaction from the players.
Get them involved. I know MANY Shocker fans that would show up to get to know the players better, get a better feeling about who they are, enjoy their humor, etc.
Do a skit with Garrett Stutz trying to put on the glass slipper from Cinderella.
Give the Seniors an opportunity to Razz the coaching staff a little (imagine how fun Ramon's would have been)
Have the Freshman do a little bo peep skit... earn their way type of thing...
There are lots of things that will get people involved.

I like the way DSB thinks. Things like that will be enjoyable and get people to keep coming back. The effort has been seriously lacking. Even if we don't max out the place, we can make it an event that would something that could be used with recruiting. I for one, would hate to see one of our top targets at the event as we do it now.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry
