Why adding Landry Shamet was key for the LA Clippers
In acquiring these new assets, a diamond in the rough was found, Landry Shamet. Extremely underrated and overlooked, his efficiency offensively turned some heads back in Philadelphia. Averaging 8.6 points per game on a field goal percentage of 44.6, you could say Shamet was an ostentatious character off of the bench for the Sixers. His role was to come off of the bench and cause mayhem for the opposing team through his vigorous repeated attacks on offense, especially from three point land.
Shamet was to be the back up shooting guard for J.J. Redick. To say the least, Landry Shamet is a stud.

I wouldn't be surprised if Landry ends up being an NBA All Star. His shooting is great and he has a lot of skill pieces, but he still is a skinny kid who needs to physically mature. When he matures, he may end up a great player who makes the All Star Team numerous times.Comment

The Way-Too-Early New Player Scouting Report for the Clippers
Landry Shamet
Stats through three games: 13.3 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.0 rpg in 28 minutes — .500/.563/.875 splits
Has there been a quicker fan favorite in L.A. than Shamet? In what was probably the hardest player to get of any of the trades — given his age, production and shooting ability — Shamet has continued with his hot shooting hand, shooting over 56 percent from three through three games. He seems to be the off-ball wiz the Clips haven’t had since JJ Redick. In learning from him in Philly, Shamet knows how to maneuver through off-ball screens, get to a spot where he can get a small sliver of space, and knock down the J. Doc has run tons of plays through him already. Whether he’s coming off double-screens, down screens from forwards, dribble hand-offs, or guard-to-guard movements, Shamet is fluid and has a knack for getting open. He can also create for himself off the dribble, something that he is even better at than Redick already, and at 6’5” can finish in the paint. Where Doc was running plays for the much-maligned Avery Bradley, who couldn’t shoot from anywhere with any consistency, now he has a younger, taller, and better floor spacer who can hit from anywhere within half court.
It seems as though Shamet will be a key future piece for L.A. He is already starting — replacing Garrett Temple in the lineup after two games, and will more than likely continue to do so for the rest of the season. With pass first guards like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Patrick Beverley, Shamet is going to get a lot of clean looks. While they did play the tanking Suns, this starting lineup of SGA-Bev-Sham-Gallo-Zubac were all above +17 in plus/minus and controlled the game from the tip. This lineup gives the Clips good shooting at the 1-4, a tall, long yet flexible front court and enough defense (although this is an area I’d like to see Sham improve — he’s slight but tall, needs to get better defensively) to let the best bench in the NBA move the needle. This will more than likely be the starting five moving forward and Shamet will be a huge part of that. Expect some big shooting nights from the rook and for him to keep improving.

With Landry’s success this year, would it be fair to say that last year’s team wasn’t as good as we thought and maybe Landry was better than we thought?Wichita State, home of the All-Americans.Comment

Landry is excelling in Catch and Shoot in the NBA. We didn't have a PG to allow him to be in that position. We were still REALLY good last year. -
Last year we were a Top 25 or 30 Team. We beat some very good teams (Cincy there and lost a 1 point game at home, Houston at home, etc.) and lost to some very good teams in our conference. In the NCAA Tournament, we drew a difficult matchup (for us) with a Marshall team who was unorthodox NBA type offense. They spread us out, and had some guards who were difficult to stop 1 on 1 where our defense was probably the most challenged. As Stickboy points out, we may have been more successful if we had a different point guard to help Landry. Although, scoring usually wasn't our biggest problem.

Baker looking at long odds to get back to the league. If he could just get his 3's back to 35%, and at least that from the "corner 3", which has been his weakness, he could get back in the league even with a setback like this, but this could be the end.
No ball for 4 - 6 months. That sounds like the kiss of death.

Shamet started out slow tonight and the Clips were down at half. He got hot in the 2nd half and finished as their leading scorer with 20. Led in +/- with +22, 6-12 FG, 5-10 3pt, in 33 minutes for the win.Comment

It seemed like most pundits thought the Clippers were mailing it in and going for the high draft pick. Shamet and his teammates are still in the playoffs with 18 regular season games left and a 3 game lead on the Kings and 4 on the Lakers. Certainly not safe but better than the Spurs at least, for now. Plus of 18 games, they have 6 against the Knicks, Cavs, Memphis and Chicago, the 4 worst teams not named Phoenix in the NBA. Plus 3 more games against current non-playoff teams. So the schedule isn't too rough. Maybe a shade more difficult than the Kings but much easier than what the Lakers face. Might just mean a beating at the hands of the Warriors but still, great experience.
