How in the hell did S. Fla go from being so bad last year to #109 this year? Surprising.

Maybe because we're in early December and these types of rankings don't mean anything until sometime around the middle of January?

I'm surprised by the leap because I thought S. Fla last year, in person, was worse than any team I've seen even in the Valley. They stunk out loud.

As far as rankings go, we've all watched enough basketball to not have to rely on them to tell us who's good and who isn't. Especially after watching GGG's teams the last several years.

For metric based on RPI (or has RPI elements embedded like NET) - going 6-2, with a 1-2 in quadrant 1 and 2. That puts 38% of their schedule against quality opponents.

KenPOM reflects probably more of reality for S. Florida with a 228 ranking. S. Florida next 5 games are against opponents of 301, 182, 225, 345 and 264 which will start impacting their non-conference SOS.

Just as a comparison, Baylor had two games last week (at Home against NET #175 South Dakota and at NET #132 Wichita State) and they improved 20% from NET #185 to #148. They beat South Dakota by 6 points.

Wichita State had just a single game against Baylor and went from NET #132 to NET #134, or 2% worse.

The NCAA must have part of their formula to only count the 2nd half statistics in the Baylor/WSU game.

Actually WSU NET before the game was in the 150 range, so there was a substanial improvement. WSU NET had been dropping all week, I assume it was because some of WSU opponents had less than stellar weeks.

Just waiting for the NCAA to release the full formula so I do things with it, but until then we can laugh at the terrible ranks this thing produces.

I've tried to respond to every post that expresses how bad this new formula is. Here's why: We don't have any idea how bad it is BECAUSE IT WON'T HAVE ANY VALIDITY UNTIL JANUARY OR FEBRUARY. Then you can complain about how bad it is, because there will be ample opportunities to point out how your (or mine, or somebody else's) opinion is vastly superior to this tool.

NCAA has no plans to release the formula. Transparency ain't their thing, to state the obvious. Gonna have to wait for someone like Pomeroy to reverse engineer it after they have a big enough sample of NET rankings.

Per Nolan's NET ratings, La Tech is better than any team in the MVC.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
