Boatright replied to a tweet from someone when he was tagged in Zach Bush's tweet about promotions and basically said "yeah, we know promotions suck, wish we didn't have them" which to me makes it seem like its entirely a money issue. At least the administration is starting to see that people are not pleased with promotions. There likely won't be change this year, but maybe something they will look at moving forward.

The Slow Death of Gameday Atmosphere at CKA

Promotions should be limited to halftime, pre-game, and one or two tv timeouts. Something has to give. That said, the fan base is getting older, As I look around the arena, I see a lot of white haired people just wanting to sit and watch. I was lamenting this versus SMU, recalling how out-of-control loud that place was when Florida State came to town for the NIT. That was intense. Wish we could get KCA back CLOSE to that. I understand that level of intensity is tough EVERY NIGHT. I get that. I just don't see any fire anymore. Student section is worthless and even the band seems to drag. I noticed Shane Dennis had a Twitter poll going. Hopefully that spurs the University to fix something.

Is there any shockernetters that are Marshallville members or at least current students? Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

I actually felt like the student section was the only area that was TRYING to get loud during the SMU game. There weren't very many of them was the problem and no one else would join in.
I commented once after a timeout that EVERYONE stood up for the "hats off to heroes" thing.... then as soon as the game started back up ... they sat back down ...

I've thought that our student section has been better this year than last year. The problem with the student section is that there are so many people buying GA tickets that they get there earlier than some students do, and students get pushed to the top while there are random GA people in the middle getting mad at students for standing and being loud. At the Houston game, a man threatened to "f*** me like the guys he did in prison" because I was standing. At the SMU game, there were people in front and behind us who were sitting, but students around them who were pushed to the top.
I get that this is on the students to get there earlier, and also to pick up tickets. Other than buying up the tickets, opening up student section tickets to the public has made the experience less than desirable. The alternative is not filling that section if students don't show up. Not sure which is worse.

I would love to see the 'student section' be exclusively students as I believe that would solve a lot of the problems. Once you get an actual student section you can have a great atmosphere with a little organization. The question is how do we get a 1000 students to actually show up for each game. Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

I haven’t been reading the board as much this year as in the past. Life gets in the way you know, the reason I say that is because this might be better addressed in another thread and it’s slightly off topic. But anyone not in the CKA will know espns production isnt much better than inside the arena. The sound was terrible and I’m pretty sure the announcers were not on location. They can fly the top dogs into Kansas every week but can’t send someone to Wichita. I’d rather the games be on fox sports Midwest than espnu if the sound on tv is gonna suck. And you could tell the jokers who did the smu game hadn’t studied either team very much. Hell the COX broadcasts were even better than what we got this week.

I also noticed the poor sound quality. The really sad thing is I flipped on the TV last night which was still set to ESPNU and the game that happened to on was Winthrop vs UNC Ashville with onsite announcers. WTF? We can't get onsite guys for an AAC game between two of the top teams in the league but a Big South game can?

Meh... I'm more than happy to honor veterans and those who have served, but it is first (and second, and third,... and tenth) and foremost a publicity stunt for ambulance-chasing tort abusers. The Patterson goons are thrilled that everyone is effectively compelled to stand up and clap while their logo is on every LED in the house, and they're up there with their asinine white cowboy hats mugging it with the subject for the night.
Plenty of people find the spectacle offensive to the honoree, but we'll keep standing and clapping because honoree outweighs the clowns and the fact that it is ultimately an advertisement.Last edited by SHOCKvalue; January 19, 2018, 11:52 AM.

ShockValue, I for one stood and cheered the veteran and have absolutely no idea who sponsored the "honoring event." Nor do I notice who sponsors the other promos -- okay, I do notice the Chik-fil-et mascot. The others, not so much.
Why not have the sponsors sponsor the cheerleaders to perform during a timeout? Or sponsor the band playing? When is the last time the cheerleaders tried to engage the crowd in a cheer? Basically, cheerleaders have become acrobats and dancers. Nothing wrong with that, but while they're standing there, how about having them lead a cheer? Even if they have to hold up cards "Go! Fight! Win!"
Somebody from our Music Department should write a "pump-em-up" song that involves the fans. KU has their fans involved in "Go Jayhawks." Our fans can be trained -- most of them scream the word "black" during the Alma Mater. And "beat the hell out of you...you,you,you, you" in Low Brass Cheer. Nobody in the state of kansas knows both the words and the tune to either fight song.

1. There is just a difference in what people want when they go to CKA.
Personally, I really enjoy the sitting down part.
The person in front of me, preferred to sit down, but pop up like a bunny every time there was a cool play. I missed a lot of plays because of this bunny rabbit. She wasn't alone.
The people behind me also preferred to sit down the whole game, expect to stand when "everyone else was"
Hasn't it been tradition to sit down after the team scores? That's what I do.
2. Either way, the sounds and visuals could improve to help train the crowd on when to stand. A simple "Stand up" or "Get loud" would probably be good enough (maybe?).
3. Shockers could help keep the crowd awake by playing a little more exciting defense. You hear how loud that place gets when we gets a stop and a defensive rebound? How about a little more of that?
4. Put lids on the d*** booz. My family had it spilled on them against SMU. It's a f**** disgrace.
