I don’t have enough knowledge of their respective roles to make an informed opinion or add any critical insight, but here has been some discussion and commentary this season about the loss of our former coaches, Chris Jans and Greg Heiar, and the impact it has had on our over-all game planning, in-game defensive counter measures, and end-of-game execution as examples. In addition, with the hiring of Donnie Jones, wouldn’t he have picked up some of these duties of the two coaches who had left? Who else picked up their respective roles?

Our two losses have been against great coaches. Mike Brey beat us with a Notre Dame team that is decent at best and Kruger handled us with a solid OU team (and played us down to the wire last year with a bad OU team). Low sample size, but interesting early returns.

Donnie jones has more experience than Heiar for sure and arguably more than Chris Jans. He's been an Asst. Coach at Florida U., Head Coach at Marshall University, and HC at University of Central Florida. CJ was a head coach at juco's, HC for one year at Bowling Green, and Asst. coach at ISUR. The difference this year is that we have had a Top 10 Target on our back against other Top 20, 30, and 40 programs (Notre Dame, Baylor, Oklahoma State, OU). Last year, we didn't have a target on our back until we played in the MVC against ISU, UNI, Drake, etc. That's a BIG difference. Now we think we are supposed to win all of our games against Top Teams.

I am prolly a lil bias , because I know both GH and CJ on a personal level, and do not know DJ or the other assistant coaches the same way.
So I don't know what skill sets they have. Having said that ,we lose two different strengths in CJ and GH. In my opinion we lose more playwr
development in GH , and more X's and O's in game adjustments and scouting in CJ. i tend to lean towards missing CJ"s skill set the most.
From the road I listen (Tune In radio) at home I watch ( season Ticks )

Conner Frankamp during the summer was singing the praises of what Donnie Jones brought to the table with his coaching/player development. There is no way that Greg Heiar knows more than Donnie Jones in the area of basketball. I think you are biased and probably sell Donnie Jones a little short. The biggest thing that may be missing is that Chris Jans and Greg Marshall had a very trusting relationship from years of coaching together and that may take time with DJ. I doubt that Kyle Linsted was hired for his x's and o's. He has the least experience.

I think back to when Boyle left turgeon's staff. The team that year absolutely fell off the table compared to expectations.
I am thrilled to be where WSU is at right now, dealing with Shamet recovering from injury, Reaves recovering from surgery and illness, McDuffie out, and replacing the scouting reports (Jans) and replacing the top assistant. That's a LOT of adversity.
Be prepared for more of the same next year. Replacing 6 seniors is the definition of A-D-V-E-R-S-I-T-Y.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I havent seen Donnie Jones coach, and I can in no way question his resume.
I can speak to part of what has been mentioned already. Both coaches brought a certain skill set that as of now has not been replaced.
If you have never attended a full practice, you cannot understand the commitment to effort and excellence ACGH demands during every drill. It was fun to watch some very talented underachievers wash out this summer from LSU. He demands what it takes to win. I dont see anyone on the current staff who provides that.
AHCCJ brought the scheme. Even when ACGH or ACIB had the scout, it was Jans who coordinated the scheme. HCGM brings it all together, but any HC is only ever as good as the sum of his assistants.
I have a lot of faith in HCGM, and his ability to develop and use the knowledge of his coaching staff. ACIB, ACKL, and ACDJ will all be better after working with HCGM, and HCGM better for working with them. But ot will take time.
No Championship was ever won in December, but it has been lost. We didnt lose our chance to win.

You only saw parts but you don't really know enough anyone to trust your evaluation either way. If you've talked to others who are intimate with the situations, you have no credibility to evaluate.

Guess which one of those was when Jans was head coach. Like I said, jury is still out on if he can recruit and maintain a program but this year, combined with his 1 year at BGSU, combined with his 4 different JuCo stints, leads me to believe he is more than competent at the X’s and O’s and getting his team to perform for him.

I like CJ but I'm not as sure as you are that he'd continue our Top 20 status that we've enjoyed every year. From 2009-10 to 2012-13 DJ went 87-44(4 years). He lost and he won. Personally, I'm not sure why we wouldn't shoot higher than either. CJ is a solid, consistent coach that you know will work hard. But I'm not sure that he will keep us at the pinnacle.

These losses and 1st half deficits all indicate one thing, a lack of quality scouting and in game play making that we havent seen in a while, when Jans was here it was like having 2 head coaches on the bench.
I like Donnie, but I dont feel as if he has the ability to draw up plays like jans did, I understand we brought him in because of his recruiting capabilities but i wouldve liked to have seen Marshall go after more of a younger x’s and o’s type guy, an up and comer with great in game planning skills but i still feel like its too early to really see the type of impact Donnie will have on the program.Hows my post? send me feedback at 1-800-f$%k-off
