3G is probably the 3rd or 4th choice for NC State, and even though who wants to be the last dog on the totem pole behind Duke and North Carolina.
Valvano did something special when he was there, but it was a long battle.

And another reason I think Marshall will stay is because of our Juniors, Stutz, Murry, Kyles, Smith, and Ragland. I don't think he would go elsewhere and deny coaching those players in their senior year.

When you make enough money to live comfortably, and not have any financial worries, other factors become more important in the decision-making process. WSU basketball is special (not run of the mill), and 3G knows it, from the program, school, and all of the fans.

He also knows how much we like, accept, and believe in him as our coach into our big family. He also knows that the school will do all that it can to support the program and him, including bringing up his salary if it is justified.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't desert that for just more money.

I assume when they say he'll meet with NCSt, that it will be while he's in Houston at the tournament.

@BrandonSosna: Hearing this morning from someone who would definitely know...Mick Cronin has accepted a 7-year offer from NC State to be their new coach.

@GSwaim: From all sources in Houston #NCState and #Mizzou will both throw kitchen sink at Shaka Smart. Loser gets Gregg Marshall.

NC State is starting to zero in on coaching candidates, especially with several in Houston this weekend for the Final Four. Click here for the latest on the coaching search
It's a pay site, so I don't have details, but it sounds like he is one of several ...

Yow is in Houston for the Final Four. Virginia Commonwealth coach Shaka Smart, Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall and Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin are believed to be among Yow’s top targets

Turgeon's guaranteed money at WSU was far greater than the greater guaranteed money he rec'd at A&M. Lutz is just plain wrong about that.

His annual salary was higher, but wasn't a lot at the start.

Right now his salary is twice what he had at WSU. ($1.5 million vs. $750,000)

I think Turgeon left b/c he thought he could attain more basketball success there.

I absolutely believe that the University and its supporters would pay up to $2 million per year if they thought that money would equal sustained NCAA success.

Why does it make you go hmm?

SASO is for athletic scholarships, not for basketball coach's or any other coach's salary.

That guy posted 9 hours ago that Oklahoma is (not was, is) interested in Marshall. I wouldn't put much stock in the guy when he's at least a day behind in real news.

Yeah, you will know when you are considered a key supporter. They will meet with you in person and ask you to join various clubs like the Coaches Club. I think that was probably a minimum of $25,000 spread over 5 years which is just now being finished up.

BTW, I am not a member of the Coaches Club nor would they waste their time even asking me.
