Anyone think NC State would go after Shaka Smart or Brad Stevens before they even talk to Marshall?

Stevens isn't going until the IU job opens up. I think going after Smart right now would be kinda silly. His team is definately hot, but it is Grant's recruits and a couple months ago some of their fans were starting to wonder if Smart was really the man for them.

Hopefully their AD just goes after the "hottest" coach right now in Smart and not the coach with more experience like Marshall. We shall see.

I don't know if they will talk to Marshall before Smart, but the word is Smart is the first choice. He's said to be the first choice for Missouri also, and Marshall 2nd choice for both. Marshall and Yow are both in Houston. A talk or interview is very possible. An offer to Marshall before Smart is more doubtful. Other than NCS being closer to Marshall's old home, its seems to me that Missouri is just as much a threat as NCS.

More often than not, guesses about these things, even from those making money to do this are not reliable.

I'm going to vote that Marshall coaches the Shockers next year.

I know very little about coach Jans other than from a few comments on this board which have all been most favorable.

What is his background prior to WSU?

Has he ever been a head coach?

He is our best recruiter. Just read his twitter board to know how many contacts he has in the coaching world. He brought in some great talent to Illinois State a few years back.

He speaks well, understands the game, and his family has settled in nicely to Wichita.

He has coached as the head man at the Juco level and was very successful.

The key questions to his hiring would be where his assistants would come from and what could they bring to the table.

He would be much less of a risk than Frank Martin when he was hired and don't even think of comparing him to Iron Mike Cohen.

Not at D1 level, however he was a head JUCO coach for 6 seasons. During which he won a national title and 3 regional championships. NJCAA coach of the year once and several times region coach of the year.

3 years as assistant at Illinois State and 4 years as assistant here at WSU. He is very familiar with the Valley.

Another possible candidate is former Shocker, John Cooper.

                    Here is John's bio:

I think Chris and John would both be viable candidates although perhaps with less cache the many Shocker fans might like.

Chris might give us the best shot at keeping all of our incoming recruits as I'm sure he was integral in the recruiting process.

John might be a sentimental favorite. I know he was one of my all-time favorite Shockers. (And don't even think about comparing him to Randy Smithson)

The 3 that have been mentioned elsewhere as showing interest are Chris, Danny Manning and Scott Sutton.

Must be so emotionally challenging to be a coach in D1. To go from coaching and winning the last game of the seaon, the next day celebrating with the home town crowd, the next day possiblly interviewing for a new job with the expectation that you'll accept or turn it down over a 24-48 hour time period. I don't know if I could handle that kind of timeline in my life.

That is kind of built in I guess since your cache as a Coach is the highest after you have some notable success. 3G's profile no doubt received a big boost from his team winning the NIT. Not only winning the NIT but winning it in dominant fashion with a true unselfish team effort and no stars. While the NIT wasn't followed closely by the average fan you can bet if was being watched by the AD and Coaching community. 3G may have caught a little unexpected lightning in a bottle with the NIT run.

Thinking about Missouri, I really doubt moving one State closer to the Carolina's fits an unbelievable offer for the Marshalls. But then it's up to Gregg and Lynn to define unbelievable.
