I love it!!!! Everyone played another stellar game and Marshall n his coaching staff really did a great job this NIT run. Kudos to all involved and couldn't be happier for our SR's, University and Shocker Nation. Hopefully this is just a sign of good things to come for the basketball program. As a younger fan who has followed the Shox for some time this is my third favorite season and first favorite team we've ever had. Also, glad we were able to, and had to, knock off my bama boys. Hopefully next year will be the year I witness a Valley Tourny title in St. Louis!
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"
To begin with a tip of the hat to all the Shocker fans who took the time, and incurred the expense, to travel to New York. You represented your city and university quite well.
A couple thoughts, in random order, on the game last night:
(1) I was seated directly behind the bench, on the floor, third row and despite the fact that directly behind Mrs. Maggie and I was the concourse walkway – I was asked by an elderly couple to sit down – even though they were in an elevated position and I am not a tall person. I did mutter to my wife, “This is not Koch”; but they seemed like a nice couple so I did my best to comply. Thankfully, the kid in front of me stood up frequently – so I had no choice, right?;
(2) My voice is hoarse;
(3) Aaron Davis was three feet away from me (he has gone the way of the X-Man, if you know what I mean) – that brought back a few memories as watched that kid from the front row of the student section many moons ago;
(4) The Alabama fans I met, both at the game and in a restaurant before the game (we chose not to go to the Irish Times yesterday – we needed food before the game and paying over $20 for a hot dog, nachos and two waters – even offends me) were generally nice and complementary. Mostly based on what they witnessed on Tuesday. The guy in front of me had no idea what conference Wichita State played in and asked me to name the conference members. He was impressed by GS and we kept a running dialogue throughout the game. At about the 2 minute mark, he turned to me and spoke very highly of the team and the coaching – he was impressed;
(5) JT may have separated my shoulder (kidding). After the game, I was watching the goings on at center court when JT decided to leap over the bench seats and jump into the crowd. I didn’t see him coming. How I missed a 6’8” 250 pound man barreling down I me, I will never be able to fully explain. It felt like a chest bump gone horribly wrong. I ended up on the floor with JT on top of me;
(6) Mrs. Maggie was very loud and got a second picture with Wu on the garden floor – she has an unhealthy obsession with the mascot bordering in stalker territory.
I have other thoughts, but I am tired. Happy but tired.
Also, if anyone knows how to post pictures taken from a phone – I have a couple very good ones of Kyles and Marshal after the game.
When Mike Kennedy came on the air at 5 p.m for the pre-game show, I could hear in the background that Madison Square Garden was playing "Sweet Home Alabama."
At that moment, I smiled and knew we won. Instantly, I thought of the 1989 CWS Championship Game when the Shortwhorns stood on the field and did their little hand sign and sang their song. Then we shoved it up their a**.
I was out of 12 year old Redbreast yesterday, so I wasn't able to celebrate properly. Went out to Total Wine today and bought myself a bottle and a bottle of Crown Royal for my wife. My first drink tonight I slummed it with some Crown Royal, but just poured some Redbreast and I'm drinking some real whiskey now.

Life is GOOD!!!!
GarH is taking HCGM's quote "tonight we drink from the chalice of victory" literally!
