The conferences are rated by a conference RPI. The regular season champs from the top 12 conferences get auto bids and all conferences get their tourney bids as it is now. So basically we are, at most, taking away 6 at-larges. You figure the 1st place teams in the top 6 conferences are going to go dancing. 7-12 is where you may see bubbles.

I would expect this to happen maybe 3 times a year.

So this would also encourage Doug-E-Fresh in St. L to get the conference higher ranked.

I've heard this plan before and think it makes a lot of sense, this way you aren't cluttered with a bunch of should-be-d2 schools.

That makes 62 teams. 2 at-large bids would nicely fill out a 64-team bracket. All revenue from the NCAA tourney is split evenly among all D1 leagues.

If 31 conferences are actually "equal", like the NCAA says, then why shouldn't they equally share in the revenues the NCAA generates? It certainly would help some of the lower conferences.

That might be a bit too socialist to fly.
