I have not called for HCGM to be fired this year. I have asked that he either learn to teach defending the high pick and roll, or hire someone else to teach it, or to recruit players that can properly defend it the way he teaches it.

HCGM sort of addressed this tonight by saying his Shockers were the best defensive team in the MVC and top 50 nationally. (He has statistics to back it up). What he didn't say was that his team was beat consistently by teams that could dribble penetrate with the high ball screen.

Bob Lutz's job is to get folks like us to talk around the water cooler or on the internet/websites. He has succeeded and I regularly enjoy his column and commentary, I don't always agree with his opinions but they are usually well thought out and written.

Is HCGM's job to win games and get to the NIT, with good young men who graduate? Or with good young men who do the same and get to the NCAA Tournament?

I don't know but Bob Lutz's job probably does not depend on 18-22 year old young men performing day in and out, HCGM's does. I think both are fine men, one (HCGM) is a bit thin-skinned and Lutz not so much. I would be willing to bet Lutz has no animous towards HCGM, I am not willing to bet the other way.

How ridiculous that people are even thinking that Marshall should be fired. This coach that a select few think may be fired will probably be interviewed or considered for some BCS-type jobs. Did the team underachieve? Yes. Has Marshall made some questionable decisions? Yes. Does that make him a bad coach? No. How many coaches out there have underachieved and made bad decisions. All of them.

Turgeon should have delivered us 3 or 4 NCAA bids, but instead his teams had meltdowns in 04, 05, and 07. Yet, the sky was falling when he left.

The key for Marshall will be whether or not he can reload after this year and bring this program to where it needs to be. That remains to be seen. He has a ton of holes to fill. Don't get me wrong, continually going to the NIT is unacceptable, but if he's here for another 3-4 years, I would fully expect an NCAA bid or two. I sure hope so, because if not, WSU may become the official sponsor of the NIT. 5 bids in 9 years already!

in Dana Altmans first 4 years he went:7-19; 14-15; 15-15; 18-10 in the 4th year he got the team to the NIT. In his 5th year he got the team to the NCAA

in Gregg Marshalls first 4 years hes gone: 11-20; 17-17; 25-10; 24-7 with 1 CBI appearance and 2 NIT appearances.

I think Marshall is doing a good job and is on the road to success.

              The over-under is 2.

In that case, I am thinking a push.

Seems clear that Marshall knows he needs better players. That solves lots of coaching problems.

I like Gregg, but it is kind of bush to say he'd coach against Lutz. Maybe Lutz should challenge GM to a writing contest.

I bet the writing contest would be closer than the basketball contest.

We are paying him to beat Cuonzo, not to beat Lutz. That is just stupid.

Negative, positive, whatever. Goals clearly were not achieved. Its not that attainable goals were not met, but the nature & lack of adjustment.
I was sarcastic about the Cohen deal, but a lot of people face discomfort when goals aren't achieved. Many don't get guaranteed pay & still feel the heat. As fans who show support that achieves national acclaim, I think we can state an opinion.
At lhe least its fair that we watch the program for adjustment.
