Again, not calling for coaches head yet. Just have some big concerns. And even if we do have the success in the coming years and coach does bolt for a new job....

I am keeping my eye on John Cooper. With what he had this year he had some decent success with a VERY young team. Very interested in how he does over the next couple of years. They finished over .500 in the OVC for the first time since 1996 with a young and depleted team.

I listened to the first half last night, and then had to go to dinner. I get back, read texts on my cell phone and find out they lost by 7. If CGM simply refused to speak to Kennedy after the game….that says something to me and it is not positive. I respected Marshall but… :(
The MVC Tournament forces coaches to go to the press conference room directly after the game completes. Winning coach first, so Triple G had to wait for Lansing to finish. I stopped listening, but did the radio broadcast end early to send it to Shane and the baseball broadcast? This, coupled with the MVC press conference rules, could have been the reason why he didn't talk on the radio.

      I'm just guessing here.
      .

Well actuallly MK talked about it....said at first he had MVC media stuff...then said after 2 more commercial breaks that ...well he is not talking to the team as many of them are meandering around. He then added that the MVC media folks where hanging out doing something ...talking ect....it was actually kind of odd that he went to that extent wondering were HCGM was.

Then added....well we will have one more time to address HCGM on mondays coaches show...obviously a little frustrated coach didnt come out yet somewhat understanding of the epic performance his team just laid.

so thats what I took from it...a little peaved and a little sympathetic....the baseball game got moved to another channel

which reminds me of something my Grandpa used to say...never really understood it till I was older. He would say "Do you know where sympathy is in the dictionary? and without waiting for an answer he would say .."right between $hit and syphillis son and none of them do you any good either!!
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

A very, very big +1 on John Cooper.

It looks pretty likely that next year is make or break for HCGM. We should still be a 20 win type team with a chance at making some noise. If he cannot coax a tournament appearance from that team, however, I don't think he'll be able to survive the lean years which look likely to follow the 2011-12 season. No coach should need more than 5 years at WSU to get us to the dance given the disparity in resource commitment in this embarrassing conference.

I'll go ahead and say what others do not want to. If HCGM cannot get us to the tournament next season, I will be ready to go another direction. HCGM walked into a dream scenario compared to what Turgeon inherited. Facilities, name recognition, recent success, budget, booster support, etc. He should not be given the same amount of time to reach the tournament. It is apples and oranges.

I will make sure to enjoy next season as much as possible. It might be our last good one for a little while.

Wow. One under achieving year and we're already looking for replacements. We sure do think highly of ourselves here at Wichita State. Us and our 1 Final Four in the history of the program.

This thread makes me ashamed to be a Shocker fan. I'm not happy the way the season ended either, but I'm not going to call for the guys job.
Keep in mind this thread was started by a 10 year old kid named DOFO (PlaneShocker)... on occasion his cheese slides off his cracker. :D

Correct. Plus if you start firing coaches after 24-8 years good luck on attracting qualified candidates.

Yes we underachieved this year. We were unable to play well when the lights were the brightest, which I think is on the players as much, if not more, than the Coaches although we know where the buck stops.

3G is a competitor and I think this year will make him even more determined to do well going forward, but he needs to be both introspective and extrospective as he examines the results of this year.

Just hang in their Coach, make an honest assesstment of the failures of this year, and do everything you can to move forward in a positive way.

Turgeon didn't think it was his "jumping off year" either, but he got an offer and he took it. If Marshall gets a "good" offer, he will go. He probably sees the prophesy in Turgeon's words about why he left (it was only going to get tougher recruiting). I'm okay with him staying (as if it were up to me), but I don't want a coach who doesn't REALLY want to be here 100%.

There's not all that many coaches across the nation that REALLY want to be where they are at 100%.

Not happy with some of his decisions and his mysterious distribution of minutes almost like he was on autopilot, but talk of firing is waaaay over the top.

                        Learn from your mistakes;
                        Tweak your staff and roster if necessary;
Hope the tourney expands to 96 teams as long as you are coaching in the Valley.

Diluting the tourney is NOT the answer. Marshall can't leave, he underachieved for the year. Frankly, no BCS school would want him if he can not win the 'big game'.

Talk about Mr Short Term memory.

How many years would we have loved to be 24-8 and finish one game back in the league.

                                Anybody remember play-in games?

How about playing teams at UConn's level and, instead of leading until the last minute or two, never getting within 15 points after halftime.

Remember being in our house and getting run out of the gym - not losing by 3 to SMS, SIU, or UNI or by 1 to VCU but a real thumping where we were never in the game?

                                Remember these HOME games?
                                12/20/91 Utah 58 WSU 36
                                01/07/92 KU 81 WSU 51
                                03/05/93 SMS 72 WSU 57
                                02/22/94 Tulsa 89 WSU 51
                                01/11/95 Tulsa 79 WSU 52
                                02/09/96 Tulsa 75 WSU 47
                                12/20/97 Mississippi 71 WSU 48

Remember being undefeated @ home last year before the NIT?

Remember looking at our opponents and wishing we had exciting athletes like they did?

Remember wishing we had a coach that could keep us out of the play-in games?

Was our coach perfect this year? NOPE

Were our expectations a little high this year, especially after losing Clevin? YEP

Is he still a great coach for WSU? YEP

Let's let him have a couple of years where he is in the bottom 1/2 of the league before we call for his head. Feel free to vent about bad coaching decisions, bonehead player mistakes, the refs, etc. but don't kill the Gggoose because it laid a silver egg and you wanted a gold one. Silver ones beat rotten eggs everytime and you may still end up with some gold ones.

I don't want to wait another 3 or 4 years while a new coach rebuilds the program to where it is now, IF a new coach could - Cohen, Thompson, and Smithson sure couldn't.

My inclination would be to see how the post season goes and extend his contract if he wins a game or two. I'd love for HCGM to win 20+ games for us for the next 15 years or so.
