grinder games like this make me pine for a go to guy that wants / demands the ball in crunch time and a coach that will make adjustments in style/tempo/offensive and defensive sets to change the game. I didnt see any of that.

I think in a crunch game we can expect to get out manuvered by good coaches.

He's taking it like a man. HCGM's postgame is the best thing about tonight, sadly...

        • VCU has lost to Georgia St. (214), North Eastern (157), and So. Florida (144) and they are still hanging in there as a possible at large.

This clearly makes the VCU-WSU game an elimination game.

No it is not. SIU is #183 right now. Odds are good that they will finish in the top 200. UE finished at 244 last year.

UE was definitely a bad loss. While losing to the #183 team isn't good, it isn't technically a BAD loss (200+ team).
Where do you get your RPI from? Mine is BBState...
Deep in the heart of couldn't give a crap about college basketball-land and I miss the SHOX.

Wasn't everyone saying this when we lost to Mo State? And UNI?

Guys, we can still win the Valley. Yes, that probably won't mean much for the NCAA tournament, but you never know. There ARE 68 teams in this year. That's an extra few spots for us to land. We might be in the opening round games, but that's IN the tournament.
Those teams didn't have an RPI of 213. This is a terrible loss.
Our average RPI win was 187. Our average loss is 31. This loss isn't going to kill us as much as you might think. I bet we're still in the top 60 in the RPI after this.

Warren Nolan has our rpi at 52 after this loss. If we can win at UNI, SMS and beat VCU our rpi will be fine and we will have some quality wins.

That is a tough order but it is possible. Up until tonight we could have lost one of those games, now I feel like we have to win all 3.
Shox1989 is right. Unfortunately, us winning out, including beating CU and VCU at home, looks impossible.

HCGM's teams in Wichita are quickly distinguishing themselves for the inability to win any remotely important games. He will deservedly catch a ton of flack for this one.

UNtil you look at the bottom half of the sheet. We haven't beaten anybody. Our only hope for the dance was to take care of business against the dregs of D1. This loss will stick out like a sore thumb.
Even after this loss we still wouldn't have beaten anybody. Nothing much has changed. I understand you're upset about this loss, but seriously, we're probably still in the top 55 in RPI. One bad loss isn't going to kill us if we win our remaining games and we crack the top 50. Plus we win the Valley in the process. I'm really tired of all this doom and gloom whenever we lose. We can still win the Valley. We can still crack the top 50 in RPI and we have 2 very good losses. The selection committee might see we had a stumble here, but our average RPI loss is still 35 or higher.

                  • here's the problem with all this at-large talk: the shockers aren't as good as everyone thinks. We can't beat the good teams. We will probably lose 1 or 2 more league games after seeing what we're capable of tonight. The only way we're going to get in is through St. Louis.

I think this game did us in but if it didn't, every game is an elimination game. I don't expect a strong finish after this showing.

                        • The total lack of effort from coaches and players is baffling. I dont like losing, but I can tolerate it if I know our team put effort into the game. This wasnt even close to their best effort.

TM has proven multiple times this season that he has no business in the game at crunch time.

                          And HCGM. Yeah. You know.............
