Three years ago, WSU hosted a super-regional. It turned out that Irvine had a great team that year which beat Texas, WSU and some CWS teams before Oregon State beat them. It was a fluke that UCI was seeded so low and went on a tourney run. If not for this "bad luck," you would be saying "WSU was in the CWS three years ago."

I'm not happy about the season so far but to pretend that WSU has not been good at times since 2000 is to lie to yourself (and us.) WSU was ranked #8 when UCI played here (and UCI was #4.) To pretend that WSU didn't have a good shot at the CWS in 2007 or 2008 is also wrong. (Florida State did get a lot of help from the officials in 2008.)
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Please tell me just one instance when an Athletic Director has forced a head coach to terminate an assistant coach.
So... based on what happens in corporate America, are you naive enough to think that a CEO or VP does not ever ever give direction or demand that an employee be discharged that is not one of their direct reports?

It does indeed happen - frequently. I'm sure it happens in college athletics as well ABC...
Ok then, give me one example. One.

Wow... You are being obtuse. Let's see... You want me to give you an example of a CEO or VP that has directed someone that works for them to discharge an employee of a company? You're out of touch with corporate America ABC. These Red Herring arguments you attempt to use are not very effective. It happens ALL THE TIME. That I do know.
I never worked in an AD's office, but I'd surmise that the same type of leadership style would exist there as well as in the corporate world.

          I can't argue against naivete.

Yes it was. However, the concern by most on this board has to do with the offense, it's dropping to or below college baseball averages over the last 10+ years, how that lesser offense may now be affecting the pitching, and the appearance of not getting it corrected.

The 2007 Shockers featured one of the best pitching staffs in Shocker history. Offensively, they were one of only four Stevenson teams to average below .300 and by the 2000s standards were average at best, below average by pre-2000 standards.

I believe the Shox scored a total of 2 runs in that Super Regional losing at home 1-0 and 3-2. Nuff said.

Uh, blaming losses on "bad luck" and "officials" is pathetic and not factual.

                Sorry.

But WSU had more offense than that at FSU in the following year's Super Regional backed by the recent leaders of Dirks and Gillaspie i.e., the type of players had they played on earlier teams would be spoken of here historically as the kind of guys we 'used to have' in the 80s and 90s.

That's not how I read the point of the entire post, but whatever.

I am a lot of things. Naive ain't one of them. I've worked for one of the largest corporations in the world and one of the most powerful politicians in the world.

The corporate world and the assistant college coaches simply aren't the same.

And you still can't name a single instance when an AD forced a head coach to fire an assistant.

Your argument here is simply stupid.

And if you really think JT should be gone, why are you letting Stephenson off the hook?

ABC, give me an example where you know that an AD DIDN'T tell a HC to fire an assistant. How is it that you know with absolute certainty that it has never ever happened?

Now do you see the silliness in your argument.
Do you really think an AD is going to advertise that he told a Head Coach to fire an assistant "or else." Of course not, as it publicly undermines the leadership of the Head Coach.

A lot of people work for "one of the largest corporations in the world." However, that doesn't make them privy to what goes on behind closed doors. Upper leadership give directives all of the time regarding discharges. It doesn't make it right, but it does happen. I imagine it happens in politics as well.

You might be correct with your assumption that the corporate world does not work the same as athletic departments. I've never worked for an AD, though I do see some ADs as ruthless as some of the top CEOs.

Re your question on why I think JT should be gone and not GS. Read my first post. Simply put, I don't think in this situation the baby should be thrown out with the bath water.

Ah, asking to prove the negative. Brilliant argument.

I do not have any personal knowledge that the moon is not made of cheese.

I know why you think JT should be gone.

Why should it be Sexton's responsibility and not Stephenson?

GS still has rope left. Nobody is going to make him get rid of anyone.

You've got to be fishing at this point. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you really don't understand and take a nibble.

Nor do you or I have any personal knowledge of an AD getting involved or not getting involved in asking for the discharge of an assistant coach. However, I do have personal knowledge of a VP and CEO asking for the discharge of a Director level employee. Making an assumption that an athletic department is run somewhat similar to the corporate world, I can surmise that an AD has indeed asked for the discharge of an athletic department employee that doesn't report directly to the AD.

It shouldn't be Sexton's responsibility. However, because of the my perception regarding Gene's loyalty attributes, I think Gene will never pull the trigger on JT. He should, but I don't think he will. Therefore, it might be necessary for ADES to get involved in looking at an objective review of JT's performance and then "help" Gene in making a correct decision.

I voted for None of them. But those of you who think that JT should be "discharged" should just simply call Gene and tell him what you think.

                                The Facts

Being a retired engineer, I like to look at the facts so I just checked the latest MVC stats as of 4/19/10. They show that WSU is 6th in the league in hitting, 4th in pitching and they are in dead last place in fielding with a 0.955 % average.
