    From Today's Wichita Eagle:

Progress indoors -- WSU sent out a fund-raising letter in late October as part of the campaign to build an indoor practice facility at Eck Stadium.

At that time, items such as naming rights for the facility ($1.25 million), the main stadium entrance ($175,000) and the dugouts ($50,000 each) remained for sale.

That list will likely change on Monday morning. WSU will hold a news conference regarding fund-raising for the facility.

WSU announced the project in July and passed the $1 million mark in August. Schaus said there is more work to do on the $3.2 million first phase of the project.

"It's moving along," Schaus said. "There's been a consistency and progression of gifts that are moving us toward our goal. Although, we're not where we want to be yet. We still have a ways to go."

Baseball coach Gene Stephenson was out of town on Friday and declined to discuss fund-raising for the facility.

"I'll be happy to talk about it on Monday," he said.

It's possible that T. Boone Pickens gave an assist to many colleges fundraising efforts last night. If you caught him being interviewed during the second half of the KU game, he told Musburger and ??? that people need to give $$$$ when they are alive and not after they've passed from this earth... in other words, he wants to "see" his large donations working and paying dividends... his goal is for T. Boone Pickens Stadium to be the best facility in the country. It was an interesting interview with one of the richest men in the world. WSU is fortunate to have several wealthy alumni providing support to the university on a regular basis. We also have a special friend of the university with over five (5) times the net worth of T. Boone Pickens. The continued rise in crude oil prices will result in some astronomical tax liabilities and donation possibilities... it's the perfect time for a huge tax shelter... hmmm.

I think the nature of the relationship between TBP and CK and their respective universities is apples and oranges. TBP's heart lies with OSU while CK donates locally for business/community PR reasons. IIRC, recently one of the Koch brothers donated a colossal amount to MIT (alma mater) cancer research . Plus it appears TBP is a big sports nut.

it might be a benchmark batting average, but it definitely isn't the perfect one.

                          Great News!

However, we still have a ways to go. Looks like we need around another $850,000 to complete the Phase 1 portion of the fund raising and to be able to start work after this upcoming season.

So the Practice Facility probably won't be nickmaned The 'Fort as previously speculated.

With the Bombardier/Learjet sponsorship any new thoughts on a nickname.

I'm thinking maybe the Factory. It will certainly help us keep the production of good Ball Players going.

Agreed, especially in college baseball. 300 is the benchmark for the MLB, but IMO should be .325 in college baseball. Any thoughts?

Thank you for the terrific donation by the way.
