Everyone's numbers in that update (except for Dugas, though his are not terrible) are pretty encouraging. Ritter has certainly found something this summer.

We'll see what kind of carry over we can get out of these guys.

I can not remember a time with so many players having all-star type summer. Bohm, Jenista, Ritter, Debacker and Young could present a solid core. Good to see some good news with this program.

Agreed. Very solid summer by most of the Shocks playing summer ball. Of course, how our pitching staff performs next year will probably be the biggest determinant of what kind of year we have. It be interesting to see how Coach Steele's approach works out.

I also want to know the level of competition they're each facing. I'm not skeptical, but more just curious. Has summer ball been watered down with all these different teams popping up across the country so the talent is spread thin? I really don't know.

Bohm and Jenista are playing in the Cape Cod League. Considered the premier collegiate summer league. Luke Ritter is playing in the California Collegiate League and Santa Barbara is usually a contender to win the NBC Tournament. Jacob Katzfy is playing in the Florida Collegiate Summer League but I don't know too much about that league. The roster of Katzfey's team does not look all that imposing. All of these leagues are wood bat leagues.

Not really sure about the Sunflower League where Travis Young and Trent Allen are playing. My guess is it isn't all that strong. Also don't know too much about the 15-team Great Lakes Summer League where Josh DeBacker is playing.

I know the Cape has always been highly regarded, but my question is more along the lines of "Is still as stout of competition as it used to be given the proliferation of other baseball leagues?"

The Cape’s top five hitters in 2016 all went in the first four rounds (of the MLB Draft), led by Virginia first baseman Pavin Smith at No. 7 overall.

Peruse the rosters of the teams in these various leagues and you get a pretty good feel what the top leagues are.

Here is the 2017 Roster for the Falmouth Commodores which is pretty representative of what you will see on CCBL rosters.

Cape cod league is the premier wood bat league in college baseball. These young men have increased their draft value substantially so far with their summer effort.

I think the Alaska Baseball League (where no Shockers are playing this year) may have fallen off a bit from its heyday.

How was the broadcast for those who watched? We were at the game. I think the threat of rain and absence of Chipper Jones hurt attendance.

Not bad. I think Shane does a great job and he did well yesterday. The minor league broadcast aspect came through in that the PA announcer was easily understood and at times drowned out the broadcast. But they did a good job.

It appeared the NBC plugged random fans into the sections behind home. They were empty in the first two innings and then no empty seats the rest of the way
