Lew Perkins didn't hire Eddie Fogler. WSU Prez, Dr Warren Armstrong did.

    • He still resides in Wichita.

Seems to me that FADES' cage has already been shaken and rattled.

Gene accepting a hitting coach or scouting job with KU baseball- Cage rattled slightly.

Gene takes over as head KU baseball coach- Cage gets major shake, everyone in centeral Kansas is asking if we just had another earthquake.

That would be interesting. KU is last in the B12. I would like to see him get a shot somewhere else and see what he can do.

                • It sounds/looks like Augie decided to step down rather than force the AD's hand.

Texas coach Augie Garrido, who has the most wins in college baseball history, will not coach the Longhorns next season.

I wish Gene had done so. Here is the all-time win list:

If Gene had finished in last place like Augie's Texas team did a few years ago or in 7th place like Texas did this year, then maybe Gene would have resigned on his own. He hated losing more than anyone.

But his last year his team finished in 2nd place by 1 game and won the Valley tourney. Plus he had an experienced team returning for 2014 that would have been full of juniors and seniors. A team that had he been coach, would appear to have had a good chance of being regional worthy. I am sure in his mind there wasn't much reason to retire.

Given his behavior off the field, I would tend to agree with you, especially as his thinking seemed consumed by the little head.

                              • Everything has been said about this subject before but I would have never fired Gene. I am not one of those in the know, however, so I don't know what went on behind the curtain. But be careful what you wish for. Who coaches the team is the most important single factor in college sports. There are far more schools who have followed up Legends with mediocre coaches or disasters than there are who just reloaded another great coach. Ask UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, FL State, Arizona State, Miami, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St. Texas, Alabama, Penn St., Ohio St., Georgetown, St. Johns ...
