Words cannot describe my dislike of this mindset. Helpless acceptance of mediocrity. No thank you.

As far as I can tell, your entire mindset is "We suck, we're always going to suck, so why not let Gene die coaching because no one else will make us not suck?"

Who is responsible for not being able to recruit better than other Valley teams? What does BCS conferences have to do with anything -- do we have a lot of teams in the Valley that moonlight in BCS conferences to justify us not being able to dominate the Valley? This man has a national championship and he can't out recruit the Valley?

Your blind loyalty here is crazy.

always been and you spoiled knuckleheads couldn't come to grips with the fact that the current situation is a little bit beyond a coaches control. Take your pick of any coach in the world and the results are not going to change that much, in fact make a bad hire and really watch us go off the cliff for good. You guys didn't deserve Gene, I'm out.

All I can say is if that is how you think in life your life must be dismal with no hope. U can be a hater and that is fine - but I have faith that wsu can dominate the MVC once again and get back in the running to host a regional.

          • The way it went down is hard to swallow, but in reality Gene was playing chicken with Sexton. There's no way that he never saw it coming and I'm sure the thought was in the back of his head the whole season... In comparison, would KSU ever fire Bill Snyder? We will never know. Rather than play chicken with his A.D. Snyder opted to retire before things became too serious. And beyond that whole situation, would Snyder ever be fired by KSU? Probably not. He would probably step down before it ever became a serious issue again in this 2nd tenure, just like he did the first time... Would KU ever fire Bill Self? Yes, in a heart beat. He brought a National Title to Lawrence, but if there were a 4 or 5 year absence from the Sweet 16, Self would be fired. There's no question. Would Self play chicken with his A.D., most likely not. If things were that sour in Lawrence it's highly doubtful he would try to stick around longer than he needed to.

Baseball America ranks pitcher Sam Tewes, from Waverly (Neb.) High, as the state’s top prospect and ranks him No. 175 nationally

“I’m not really wavering,” he said. “I’m pretty much sold on Wichita State.”

Wow William you should have stayed under whatever rock you've resurfaced from. Just because you write as though you are the end all be all of facts doesn't make it so. GFY

The top prospects don't want to play in the VALLEY you say.

I didn't do too much digging but here you go.

10 Sean Manaea, lhp, Indiana State
43 Alex Gonzalez, rhp, Oral Roberts (MVC type school)
74 Tyler Skulina, rhp, Kent State (MVC Type)
180 Jake Johansen, rhp, Dallas Baptist (MVC to be)
234 Brandon Peterson, rhp, Wichita State

In my opinion a good coach gets the most out of the hand he is dealt. You seem to think the best coach is the one who is dealt the best hand.
But in college baseball you have a part in the hand you are dealt. There is no reason WSU can not get more of those top 250 prospects. If we get a coach in here with the Gregg Marshall mentality, "Nobody but nobody is going to out work me on the recruiting trail." I can almost guarantee that more of those top 250 will have WSU by their name.

                    • Are they going to get a coach better than Gene was in the 80's and 90's? Absolutely not. But will they find somebody who is better than Gene of the past 5 years? Pretty good chance of that. Something changed, and it was time for new blood to reinvigorate this program while there is still a chance.

                        • It's too bad things ended like this but there is something to be said about going out while you're on top. Just to avoid these situations.

Why don't you try running this little nugget of genius by 3G and let me know how it turns out.

On a similar note, I hear human entrails are in season.
