He was already showing diminished returns in the 6th.

Feeling like you need to drive Favors into the ground is a scheduling problem. Sucks having our toughest non-con games in the middle of our con schedule.

Always has been. Just part of why what happened for 25 years was so impressive as a northern baseball school. Not sure we're going to be helped by now being the only northern team in the conference.

Seems like there is a lot of talent (many young) but coaches don't know how to use it. Favors had given up a lot of hits, no decent pitching coach leaves him, especially game 1 of the weekend.

I think it's more that they, rightly or wrongly, have a fairly short list of guys they trust. And those guys were all spent from the midweek. Reliever comes in there and gives up any runs and we're asking why we're taking our Friday night guy out after 80 pitches.

Any way you slice it, not good enough in any phase of the game tonight. Gotta bounce back and win the next two.

Didn't hit well enough, didn't pitch well enough, didn't field well enough, didn't coach well enough.

I haven't always agreed with Cdizzle about when we bunt, but there's no other answer to CJ bunting in the 3rd with no one out. That was an AWFUL decision.

Not to beat a dead horse, but we just don't have the horses to overcome multiple mistakes. USF has a bunch of men they run out there. They've underperformed for years, but they have talent.

And this was the 2nd consecutive road series where the Friday starter was in a groove, worked fast and we did next to nothing to break his rhythm. Not quite as bad as we were with Blaze 2 weeks ago, but still shitty. And give Mink credit, he was good tonight. Pitched backwards a lot. Tons of first pitch strikes. And USF did a great job of being aggressive at the plate.

Not sure what tomorrow will bring. USF seemed very full of themselves tonight. Confidence is a big part of success. We'll see. Not competing at the plate is becoming a problem we can't overcome.

Happy with the progress so far, but the winning record is somewhat fools gold.
Beating up on the Utah Tech's, Gonzaga and Rice's of the world doesn't quite match up with USF, ECU and others left on the schedule.
Schedule makers didn't do WSU any favors by having to go on the road to both USF and ECU. Guess that's where we found out if they are a contender or not.

Need to comeback with a win or two @USF. Do that and the confidence in a young team will take off.
Remaining games in Fla are important for several reasons.

                          That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

The bunting in the early and middle innings insane. Those are opportunities for big innings and we are giving the defense a free out. I get it if its the 8th or 9th and need that run. Coaching staff has been getting a free pass due to the record but they make mistakes in game that I do t get.

Approaching the danger zone in the season.

Shockref is probably on to something about the record and the competition. We have a lofty Q4 record. The nation’s 15th ranked ERA team might just be a byproduct of playing weak competition. Regardless with the pitching, the offense and approach has cooled considerably.

No need to throw strikes in this game for the USF pitchers apparently. Just get it to the catcher out of the dirt and they will call it a strike.
