Wasn't the prettiest game ever but the Shocks came from behind twice down 5 after 2 innings, tied it at 5-5 in the top of the 6th only to give the lead right back in the bottom of the 6th and trailed 5-8 after 6 innings. A 5 spot in the top of the 7th gave the Shocks their first lead at 10-8. In the bottom of the 8th Ryan Stuempfig gave up a walk and a single to bring the tying run to the plate with the heart of the Stetson order due up. Aaron Haase came on in relief of Stuempfig and shut down the threat with a stirkeout and a 5-3 groundout. The Shocks added an insurance run in the top of the 9th thanks to some shaky fielding by the Stetson outfield and Haase in order in the 9th for a well earned save.

Shocks did generate 17 hits including 2 doubles, a triple and a home run. The triple was by Garrett Kocis in the 9th and was hit further vertically than it was hit horizontally and the Stetson center fielder could simply not get a bead on it in the light rain and in the wind. Garrett was 4-5 with 3 runds scored and 2 RBI. 8 of the 10 Shocker position players had hits in the game. Chuck Ingram hit his first home run as a Shocker, an opposite field solo job. Paxton Wallace was 0-4 with 3 strikeouts and Hunter Gibson struck out in his only at bat as a pinch hitter.

The game was payed on a pretty soft and wet track. Maybe the Shockers are mudders.

Depending on how this goes in the next week or two, this might deserve it’s own thread. However, Garrett Kocis had two more home runs and currently has nine. Depending on the other Top home run producers, he is definitely in the Top 10, and could be as high as #2 on the NCAA list.

I don't think Garrett will be back for his senior year.

It’s been a long, long, long, long time since, teams scoring in Double digits will win anything. Maybe junior high back when they used peach baskets and jumped the ball after every basket.

You missed my point. Billy used to say he didn't care if the other team scored 100 because his team was going to score 120. He was trying to answer his critics belief that his teams did not play defense.

Not a recipe for winning many games.

I didn't see much of today's game live so thought I would watch the replay or at least some of it.

Nutty first inning for Spencer Hynes. An error on Kocis at 1st, a strike out, a walk, a hit by pitch, a strike out, a bases loaded walk and a strike out. Stetson takes the leas 1-0.

Really like how quickly the Stetson starter worked. He did not mess around.

Shocks stole a run in the 4th. With VanVooren on 3rd and Cadena on 1st, Cadena broke for 2nd and when the pitcher threw to 2nd Ross stopped halfway and stayed in the run down just long enought to allow an Vooren to score.

Spencer Hynes looks like he has okay stuff but perhaps struggles with command. In his defense, and for that matter everyone who ptiched today, the conditions weren't great, cool, wet and damp making the footing and making gripping the pitches not ideal. Spencer allowed 6 hits, 3 walks and a hit batter but also struck out 8+ while throwing 108 pitches in 5 innings and left the game only trailing by 1 at 4-5.

Ryan Stuempfig came on to pitch for the Shocks in the 6th and looked particularly uncomfortable with the conditions.
