True, because Joe Blow fan is unlikely to be a really big booster.

My guess is that it's going to take a heck of a lot more than just making the NCAA to keep the Butler era going -- and also in my view, that's as it should be. A tournament spot this year would be nice, but really just a consolation prize for a long stretch of disappointment and increasing apathy; and that shouldn't be enough to change the obviously right course of action.

Is the tournament in a Spring training park?

I'm convinced the reason Boatright hasn't pulled the trigger previously is almost all $$, for what it is worth.

The AAC Tournament is at Spectrum Field (formerly Bright House Field) in Clearwater, FL on the NW edge of Tampa. It s the spring training home of the Phillies and is also the home of the Clearwater Threshers, the Phillies Class A affiliate in the Florida State League.

The AAC Tournament has been played there every year so far.

The previous 5 champions were Houston, ECU, UConn, Houston and ECU.

Based on that, '72, Connecticut probably feels like it's their turn this year again.

Fun fact. The #8 has beaten the #1 in the opening round of the AAC tournament 3 consecutive years.

Brady Slavens picked a good time for his 1st career home run. To bad the AAC play-by-play guy called him Giles when he made contact but at least he got his name right as he reached 2nd base.

That play by play guy was brutal on names all game long. He was calling Clayton "Alec" most of the game. (I guess the force was with him.)

A former college baseball coach once told me that tournaments can get weird because "everyone generally has at least one good arm."

Baseball isn't like football or basketball where there are obvious differences between top teams and seemingly-lesser teams. The talent difference in baseball can be small but will make itself known over the course of a long season. In a one-game set-up, strange things can happen.

ECU went with their #1 guy today and the offense put up 13 runs on 15 hits including 3 home run as ECU eliminated Houston with a 13-2 win.

Makes the last two outings by Clayton McGinness against ECU look even more impressive.

                  Big, big day today.

Win and we'll get somebody's midweek starter in at least one of the bracket finals games, plus we may be able to reserve a well-rested McGinness for the AAC Championship game.

Lose and we'll see one of ECU's rotation starters on Friday and, should we somehow pull that off, probably have to use Johnny Wholestaff (including McGinness on three-days rest) on a do-or-die Saturday.

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

If we get to Sunday, McGinness IS the starter. 4 day rest he's the man right now and he'll be ready. Have to get there first though, and today's game is crucial. Hopefully Tommy is ready to go. Clayton threw 100 pitches last Thursday and again Tuesday. I can't imagine asking him for Saturday. It's up to the rest of the staff to get us to Sunday.

Has Todd Butler ever won more than 1 game in a postseason tournament before?

                    ... No really, deuces.

It won't be easy (never is in baseball). My guess is the Shockers will see Mason Feole this afternoon. Feole pitched shut out the Shockers on 2 hits over 7 innings in UConn's 4-0 series opening win over the Shocks during on May 3rd.

UConn took an interesting approach with their pitching apparently using a pre-determined split using 5 pitchers in their opening round win over Houston including their #2 and #3 starters for the first 5 innings.

To answer your question, yes. When we hosted the MVC in 2015, we won the tournament opener. Sam Hilliard had a go-ahead bomb in the 8th to beat the Redbirds. Lost the winner bracket game against Missouri State. Beat whomever to get another shot against the Bears (having to beat them twice to advance)...played them tough but ultimately lost again.

Better statement for what you are trying to say is that we have not won the first two games of a conference tournament with Todd as the coach.

That would be in the best interest of the long term future of the program.

This tournament should have no bearing on what should happen. We have 6 years of results already. However, considering the person who we have in charge, we probably should’ve take any chances.
