  • Shocks at Tulane

Big road series for the Shockers as they take on Tulane this weekend. First game will be on ESPN3 at 6:30 tonight.

The Shockers hot streak (10 of the last 11) has boosted their RPI 17 points in the past week to #69 per Nitty Gritty. After Tulane, they'll be coming home for a crucial eight-game homestand against strong competition ( #29 OSU; #75 Houston; #36 UCF; and #32 OU ) that will likely tell the tale of the season.

    Go Shocks.

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

It looks like these games will be on CST, probably meaning a blackout on ESPN3.

I kind of feel like spring training has come to an end and the real season starts today. Hopefully, this year's team is more ready for what lies ahead than last year's team was. Only time will tell whether or not they are.

Another headscratcher today with Cincinnati going to Storrs and beating the Huskies 5-4. Cincy led 5-1 into the 9th and had 2 outs when UCONN launched a rally. Walk, walk, double, double and it was 5-4 and the tying run in scoring position but a K ended the game. Cincy is 12-16 and UCONN 18-11 but both teams are 4-3 in conference.

            Shocks go with

            Boyer
            Gibson
            Ritter
            Cadena
            O'Brien
            Wallace
            Slavens
            VanVooren
            Katzfey

Boyer drills a double off the wall on the 1st pitch. Gibby moves him to 3rd and Ritter scores him on a single. Good start.

Cadena walked, O'Brien struck out and Wallace destroyed one over the scoreboard. Slavens grounds out. Shocks 4-0.

No way it could start any better or stay this good. Snavely with a 10 pitch 1-2-3 inning against a group of guys hitting .375 with 20+ homers.

              4-0 Shocks top 2.

UCF continues USF's nightmare in conference, scoring 3 in the bottom of the 1st to bury the Bulls 4-1. UCF moves to 2-5 in conference, USF 1-6.

Shocks going through the motions at the plate in the 2nd and 3rd inning. Need to get the bats going again because I doubt 4 runs holds up against these guys.

                  Bottom 3 still 4-1 Shocks.

Memphis, playing out of conference, takes a 1-0 lead into the 8th against Southern. Southern gets a 2 out single run to tie the score, then get 5 in the ninth on ONE single and a handful of walks, errors and wild pitches. 6-1 loss for the Tigers.

Snavely living on the edge last couple of innings. Tulane get another one and it's 4-2. Shocks needed a double play to get out of the 3rd. Still not doing anything at the plate after that 1st inning explosion.

6 pitch top of the inning. Gotta like that.

Shocks really blew a chance in the top of the 6th, the kind of muck up that drives everyone crazy. Gibby and Ritter single to lead off the inning....1st and 2nd nobody out and Gibby gets picked off 2nd by the catcher. Just a mental mistake. Ritter then steals 2nd but we get nothing else.

Then Snavely, who has struggled in the 5th or 6th in every start but 1 leads off the bottom of the frame by walking the leadoff batter. Come on Shocks!
