I'm not saying WSU should be #16 instead, but that must be an actual joke. Gotta prop up the P5 somehow.

Does bring up a question, though. Since I, and apparently others, look at RPI (and maybe warrenNolan specifically), does the NCAA baseball selection committee use RPI in a similar fashion to basketball? If so, are they also changing to the Quadrant system? I have no idea, since it hasn't been of concern for 10 years.

I would guess there is a lot more "they have a series win against Team A, so that's good" sort of rationale rather than purely the RPI stuff.

Collegiate Baseball has become a joke. This year especially. There's no rhyme or reason for the movement of teams in the poll, although at this stage in the season you'd think there would be since most everything has been fleshed out.

NCBWA finally released their poll a few minutes ago (dated as of yesterday). WSU checks in at #20 (up from 22).

          Shocks are:
          • #20 in USA Today/Coaches, D1Baseball, and NCBWA
          • #30 in Collegiate Baseball
          • Unranked in unabashed Shocker-hater Baseball America

One would think BA would move on since Gene is gone, but no

Anybody know the origin for the BA hate boner for WSU going back to the Carter Administration?

            Actual question, BTW.

And to think I always used to believe that Kendall Rogers had a Viagra-sized hate boner for WSU, but now that he's with (or runs?) D1Baseball I'm not sure my impression was that accurate.

I think it pretty well correlates with 1999 and may or may not have anything to do with any events that happened that year.

Can’t really be too upset with rankings when you take 19-4 beatings on your home turf to conference bottom feeders.

I actually remember BA giving WSU lots of love during the Gene days. Not much love in the Butler regime, but the results spoke for themselves.

          ... No really, deuces.

I'm not sure a plural belongs in there, at least so far.

Not this millenium. They took a hard turn in 1999 and have not looked back since.

WSU appeared in their polls semi-regularly from 2000 - 2008 but there was always a handicap.

Collegiate Baseball gave us the benefit of the doubt for a half dozen years after we stopped deserving it.

The writers of these publications are pretty engaging on Twitter, particularly Aaron Fitt and Mike Rooney. Hit them up.

I'm surprised Collegiate Baseball didn't' put us into the Top 10.

D1 Baseball has their regional projections up after a 2 week hiatus. Shocks are a #2 seed in Lubbock. 4 AAC teams with UCONN hosting at Fenway Park (damn cool) and ECU hosting at Greenville. Don't get all the B1G love. Minnesota is ok. Iowa? They'd fight Memphis for 9th in the American. Michigan? Ok, they've won 16 straight but against whom? Terrible. Even I will argue for the SEC getting 11 or 12 WAY before the B1G gets FIVE teams in.

Obviously no love in the polls this week. NCBWA isn't out yet but I imagine we will drop from #24 out of the top 30. NCBWA also lists about 25 others receiving votes so we should have some idea how far we dropped.

I am shocked that we only fell to 30 in the NCBWA poll. That is great news!!! We can still say we are officially ranked by one publication (in the Coaches Poll we are listed as tied for 8th/9th/10th/11th in "Others Receiving Votes" but not officially ranked since they only rank the top 25).
