Here is why the MAKE WSU GREAT AGAIN could occur

    1. Two potential All-American hitters with Jenista and Bohm (should have plenty of confidence from their success in the Cape),

    2. Redshirt Freshman Pitchers

LHP Frosh (RS) Trent Allen - 2.51 ERA/0.91 Whip - named to all-star in his summer ballR league.
RHP Frosh (RS) Preston Minor - 3.00 ERA/1.44 WHIP - name to all-star team in his summer ball league
RHP Frosh (RS) Joe Dittmar - No. 8 pitcher in Illinois, Top 500 player in HS, fastball 88 (92 mph max)
LHP Frosh (RS) Alex Segal - Drafted out of H.S., 88 mph fastball, No. 4 ranked pitchers in Arizona

    3. Returning Pitchers
RHP Jr Codi Heur - has improved each year, had 8.1 K/9, needs to improve his control and cut down his BB and HBP
RHP Jr Robby Evans - 8.7 K/9, 4.33 ERA, needs to improve his whip.
    RHP Sr Adam Keller - 8.3 K/9, 3.86 ERA
RHP Sr Chanler Sanburn - 10.5 K/9, 0.220 opp BAvg, if he can cut down his walks he can really improve his 4.58 ERA

    4. Incoming Frosh

Tyler Davis - two way player, hit 0.353 and 4 HR in H.S., 1.43 ERA as a pitcher
Paxton Wallace - No. 2 player in Arkansas, played 3rd and pitched in H.S., has 91 mph fastball
Garrett Kocis - Ranked No. 1 player in Nebraska, Honorable mention perfect game all-American
Ross Cadena - No. 3 ranked catcher in Texas (36 overall Texas), Honorable mention perfect game all-American, 1st Team Texas
Bryce McDermott - 2.01s pop time
Logan Easley - No. 2 middle infielder Arkansas, No. 6 overall in Arkansas, HM perfect game all-American
Blake Burd - OF, No. 26 ranked in Oklahoma by perfect game. Only concern is his durability, multitude of injuries in H.S. kept him from his full potential
Ryan Stuempfig - Another HM perfect game, 1st team Texas, 90 mph fast ball, ranked 26 in Texas
Jacob Lindemann - 89-91 MPH fastball, No. 3 ranked RHP in WI

WSU just needs 2-3 to make an impact as frosh.

    5. Solid Returning players

WSU just need these guys to put up these type of numbers or improve them

    Trey Vickers - 4 HR, 0.296/0.351/0.398
    Jordan Boyer - 3 HR, 0.295/0.379/0.448

    6. Emerging Returning players

It would help if some returning players who have not had stellar careers emerge this year and reach their full potential. I have no candidates - maybe somebody else does.

    7. There is an O'Brien on the team - Mason O'Brien

    8. In the American Conference. No. 4th ranked conference last year. Plenty of opportunities for quality wins.

Trey Vickers is a solid returning player. Jordan Boyer would have to be in the emerging category.

Based on their play this summer the two guys I would have mentioned, in adition to Trey Vickers in these categories are Luke Ritter and Jacob Katzfey.

That said I will conitinue to

and say that the key will be how far our pitching can take us.

Note: You can see I am setting the table for a big plate of roasted crow if the offense is able to overcome mediocre pitching and carry the team this season.

Another unknown for the Shockers this season is what kind of impact, if any, will new AC Sammy Esposito have. The guy you don't know always seems better than the guy you do know but it doesn't always work aout that way.

It will also be interesting to see how holding most of the ptiching staff out of summer ball works out. Will that prove to be a good, bad or indifferent thing?

        You on pot SB?

The one glaring negative will dominate all potential positives.

Stop setting yourselves up on a yearly basis. It’s unhealthy.

This was once said about Shocker basketball.

The great thing about baseball, hope springs eternal.....at least until the first shocker pitchers walks 3 of the first 4 hitters he faces. Then we can all go back to spring basketball.

I know you are a fact driven guy and seldom let emotion enter into your analysis..So I will be with you and hope for the best and see if they can pull the thing together. Go Shox. It seems like such a distant past now that we used to look forward to baseball in early December after our hopes of improved basketball was already dead.

I wonder if ecu is looking forward to baseball and spring football since they are the dead horse of the AAC in basketball.

ECU didn't exactly have a great football season at 3-9 (2-6 in AAC play). So maybe they are just lookin forward to baseball.

              Great point.

They hired a new coach every 4 years until Shocker basketball didn't suck any more.

Although the replacement coaches probably didn't get 7-year contracts with no reasonable buyout provisions before proving that they were worth such a vote of confidence.

While ES was probably instrumental in the ouster of HCGS, DB may have been the lead on getting, negotiating, and hiring TB. ES seemed more of a figure head and fund raiser than a nuts and bolts AD.
