Plausible deniability. Isn't that the standard any more? Unfortunately for Pitino, the NCAA thinks it's his responsibility to know.
Instead of just not knowing that something did happen, Pitino is responsible to know that something didn't happen. A head coach is supposed to be held accountable for the actions of those working for him. Too many times head cocaches were walking away unscathed because they were able to destroy the career of an assistant who was merely following orders. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

He probably is guilty, even if he was doing what he was told. Rather than go through the career suicide that awaits, why not resign? He's probably going to make more money for going away and shutting up from the Louisville/Pitino Estate than UMKC could afford to pay."You Don't Have to Play a Perfect Game.
