They would be screwed if Self left right now. Lol. With no available up and coming coaches on the radar, it seems like they would take a chance on one of the new big east coaches.

Plenty of KU guys out there with experience that KU would go after. Might not be a better job in the country, it's the type of job that current coaches with no intent on leaving their current situation would leave for. I think if Self really left KU, that KU would have no trouble finding a great coach. I don't think I'd put money on him leaving, but I have a feeling that confident KU fans that say there is no way he's leaving are in a bit of a fantasy world. Bill would 100% listen to what they had to say if they showed interest.

There's no guarantees in any coaching change though. UK and UNC are the same type of jobs and they've both had coaching fails in recent memory.. I think the Thunder would be foolish if they didn't at least call Self, but the way this firing of Scott Brooks looks isn't good. The guy got fired because Durant and Westbrook missed most of the season due to injury. It's tacky.

To play devil's advocate, Brooks didn't win a single championship with a team that had Durant, Westbrook, and earlier with Harden. I can understand the sentiment that they fired him after a year that was sort of out of his control with injuries, but that doesn't negate the previous 6 years of no championships. I think Brooks got shafted a bit, but still from a management side can understand the want for a change if you really think the guy can't win you a Finals Championship.

and the timing is perfect. He finally put together a good run at Maryland. Plus, I think it would be a bad hire, leading to some bad years for KU in the beginning. Therefore, it is perfect.

I don't get any beefs with the Terg. I'd definitely feel better about attending thier games if he was coach. But i think all the Self leaving stuff is silly. He was been offered by NBA before, and said it hasn't had any interest. At least Terg would recruit decent guards though.

I have zero beef with Turg. I am in the camp of him being a good coach who was part of what brought us to where we are. That doesn't mean I think he is an elite blue blood coach, though. He's good enough to maybe sniff the job, though. I'd hate to see him struggle, but if he does that at KU, I will still consider him a SHOCKER legend. :)

he could be @Kung Wu:'s "antiHawk"

Okc didn't win a championship because 1. The Spurs sick their entire team on everyone. That advantage though is soon to age out.
                    2. LeBron James- Which I never understood how those Heat teams handled OKC. It just shouldn't of happened like it did. Okc has 2 guys on their roster that are LeBron caliber, the Thunder's team was much younger and their bench was deeper. So yeah, that looked bad.
Every team wants to win.. But getting even a little carried away like the Thunder just did never looks good.

I would think Jay Wright would be in play at KU. Maybe Mark Turgeon or Kevin Stallings in the second tier.

I wouldn't even be surprised to see them go after someone like Bruce Pearl. Maybe they could teach Bruce how not to get caught.

I had no beef with Turgeon, until he said "I've done all I could here" and left the roster to the point were WSU current walk-ons could have started.

It also became clear to me that he was never truly happy here and was just holding off until a "big" opportunity came his way; just never saw A&M as that myself. Also, when he defended KU for not scheduling WSU, when he should have just declined to comment, was in poor taste (IMO, at least).

Tony Bennett (the coach, not the singer; although that would be fun too) would be a good hire for them.

Could see them trying to lure Sean Miller away from Zona too.

Some KU fans would be lazy enough to want to hire Danny Manning. Not that he'd do a horrible job because his absence from Lawrence might be the reason Perry isn't a lottery pick right now, but he probably should show some big-time success first. I thought Tad Boyle might be in play as he had really made some great progress in Boulder. However, a last-place finish this past season erased any chances of his candidacy.

I kind of disagree. I think Mark was extremely happy here. I think he listened (in my opinion only) too much to people in coaching that he respected instead what was in his heart. I think he did (and continues to do) what he thinks others think he should do, more than what he does for himself.

Mark hasn't accepted what Gregg clearly lives....don't mess with happy. Neither man will ever spend what they've earned in their lifetimes. They are both too disciplined and frugal to do that.

One man is really, REALLY happy. The other, I think, is content, but looking for happy. Just my opinion.
