  • Iowa State Cancels Two Games This Week Due To Impending Weather

ESPN - Iowa St. cancels two hoops games due to severe storm forecast

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State canceled a men's basketball game Wednesday and women's basketball game Thursday because of the potential for severe weather.

The athletic department announced Tuesday that the men's game against Omaha and the women's game against Drake will not be rescheduled.

"After consulting with both Omaha and Drake, we believe that canceling both games today will afford the student-athletes from all four teams the opportunity to depart ahead of the storm and return safely to their homes to spend the holidays with their families," Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard said.
Probably not a bad idea to do it now if they expect it to get too bad and allow student athletes to get home. Ames is expected to get up to 10 inches of snow between Wednesday and Friday.

Neither the men or women will play again until New Years Eve. That is a long time off for each team.

Though if the storm doesn't hit and little happens, it may look a little less positive.

Maybe Iowa should have cancelled as well

ESPN - Eastern Illinois shocks Iowa on road as 31.5-point underdog

The Panthers were such big underdogs that most sportsbooks did not offer odds on them to win the game straight up.

The start of Wednesday's game was moved up 4½ hours due to the weather forecast, then Iowa broke out to an 18-4 lead and led 45-37 at the half.
Hodges had three straight dunks in 68 seconds to break a 55-55 tie midway through the second half as Eastern Illinois took control. A Donaldson layup had the Panthers up 75-65 with 5:26 to play, and his jumper made it 82-68 with 2:50 to go.

The Panthers were 21-of-29 after intermission (72%), including 4-of-8 from 3-point range, while the Hawkeyes went 2-of-17 behind the arc and 11-of-36 overall (31%).

Only suspect foul shooting delayed the outcome. Eastern Illinois was 9-of-17 from the line in the second half, but Iowa also struggled, going 14-of-23.
