Just like in the Connor Frankamp thread, my brothers sisters uncle's third cousin twice removed talked to a staffer...

Say what we want about Martin, he certainly isn't perfect, but I doubt if he is bolting to USC without some communication with his players. That to me is hard to believe. Now pass me that ad for free swamp land in S. Carolina please.

I can't believe I'm defending Frank Martin but if you know the first thing about him you know he loves his players. One of the main reasons speculated is that their AD didn't stick up for his guy.

KSU is ripe for mockery, but you don't need to manufacture fake outrage to do it.

This from a poster on the K State board about Tad Boyle (the new hot name):

Tad Boyle is my personal favorite and it isn't even close. This guy can coach folks, he can flat out coach, and he is a great guy. I know him well (probably why he is my favorite), but he can coach. Most say he was as responsible for WSU's Sweet 16 run in 06 than Turg was and when he left, Turg went down quick at WSU. He rebuilt a dumpster-fire at Northern Colorado, and has done a heck of a job at CU. Think about it, he was able to sell Alec Burks and Cory Higgins to stay in Boulder, and in his first year, taking over a crappy team, he not only beat us three times, but he had them on the bubble and to the Final Four of the NIT. This year, he loses a lottery pick and a 4-year stud in Higgins, plus, two weeks before the season, a top-150 recruit decides he doesn't want to play basketball and quits the team. Tad was professional enough to honor the kids scholly for this year, but that had to hurt as well. He then wins the PAC 12 tourney and wins a game in the NCAA's. Tad Boyle is a GREAT coach. Some may not think he is a national name or whatever, but he is as good a coach as you will find. I also know for a fact, that had Marshall taken the NC State job last year that WSU really truly thought they would get Tad to come back to WSU, because Tad is paid so poorly at CU and it just simply isn't a bball school or a bball league. I personally, as a diehard Wildcat, don't care that he played at KU. As I said, I know him well, and he has never seemed to me to be a guy that really had any dying love affair with KU. It was obvious when you talked with Turgeon that he was completely fixated on everything about KU. Not with Tad, mainly because he is not a native Kansas. He played at KU because that was the best program that recruited him, and I am sure he loves his alma mater, but at this point, I think that ship has sailed.

If KSU lands Tad, that's a HUGE get. I just don't see it?

That's a pretty good post taken from the Wildcat board. I think the chances of Tad returning were much more remote than the poster intimated, unless Ann was pulling the strings, but he's got Tad nailed.

K State could do a lot worse than Tad Boyle, but I don't think they'll be that fortunate.

They might have a decent chance since Tad is so poorly paid and CU is broke. Hypothetically if we needed to shop a new coach today he would be my #1 desire. Guy knows the game and is pure class.

CU was broke, but the coffers open from the Pac-12 in July. Tad has indeed done great things in Greeley and Boulder. I think he will be rewarded enough to make it worthwhile for him to stay and flourish in the foundation he is building there.

I'd say the chance of Boyle leaving CU for KSU is about 1%, the 1% being if CU's entire campus burned to the ground tomorrow and the university decided to disband. So, yes, there is a chance. I have absolutely no disdain for KSU at all, so with that said, I think Wildcat fans need to be a little more realistic than that regarding what type of coaches would be interested in their job. It's certainly a program on the rise, but it has little tradition and history, mild fan support, and the AD is a douche. They ought to be looking for mid-major coaches or high major assistants.

I heard a fellow from Gopowercat.com on KGSO this morning. The names I recall him mentioning were Marshall, John Groce, Tad Boyle, and Kevin Stallings. He did not seem at all interested in Tim Jankovitch and did not think that would excite the KSU fan base. My impression was that KSU, or at least this guy, was aiming rather high. I guess the KSU job is more prestigious than I thought.

Gottileb was on 810whb with soren petro just now and the question of Shaka, Brad Davis and Gregg came up. Per Doug: no, no, and no. Reason: you. Don't leave the best job in your conference for a middle of the. Road job, even in a bigger conference.

I am the guy who posted about Tad and I know Tad from his days at WSU. I am a KStater, but also love the Shockers, just bleed purple because it is my alma mater. I have no real idea whether Tad would be interested or not. However, I do know for a fact that some pretty prominent Shocker folks, when it appeared Coach Marshall may leave for NC State or wherever, felt REALLY confident that they could get Tad back to WSU. That is the only reason I think KSU might have a chance. KSU could double his salary, and KSU is in a much better conference, etc. These are good posts, have enjoyed reading them, although I do question the above post from Rocky Mountain sayign that KSU has "little tradition and history." You must be younger than 25 if you believe that. KSU had a horrible run from 1992 to 2006, but from WW2 until the Lon Kruger days, KSU was a pretty big time basketball school.

I found this post from a K-State board interesting:

coloradomommacat wrote: I apologize if some of this is in other threads but I haven't had time to read all of them, but this should dispell any loyalty to Frank and any badmouthing of Currie and Shultz. My eyes were opened over the weekend watching Frank audition on CBS and especially after he threw KState under the bus with his admission that he gave lots of money to his former athletes from HS and he didn't think what Curtis Malone did with Jamar was wrong...folks, that was the equivalent of telling the NCAA to have fun looking over everything I've done over the past years I've been at KState to see what other rules I've broken.

My son listens to a morning show in Wichita and these comments were made this morning that clears a lot of misinformation up. This person he said was a sideline reporter at the KState football games and he has friends in the Athletic Department who shared this info with him last night in numerous phone calls he made:

                                · The relationship between Currie and Martin was not as bad as portrayed. There was definitely tension, but it was not atypical of AD-coach relationships.

                                ·
Martin’s language and antics during the West Virginia game was a big embarrassment for the AD and president. They got lots of complaints from fans seated by our bench about Frank’s demeanor, and that was one thing Currie had to consistently deal with.

                                ·
Six players, including Angel Rodriguez and Spradling, were going to transfer after the season if Frank was back. Spradling may stay, but Angel will not. He’s homesick and wants to get back closer to Miami. When asked if South Carolina was an option, the person said ‘no’…the two don’t see eye-to-eye.

                                ·
Currie did make a counter offer, contrary to what is on the internet.

                                ·
Currie believed he could salvage the relationship and make the situation work if he could talk the players off the ledge.

                                ·
Currie had no intention of conducting a coaching search. He had his hands full with facilities projects and fundraising, so hiring a new coach was not on his radar despite Frank's paranoia that Currie was after Tad Boyle from Day 1.

                                · After each season, scholarship players fill out an exit questionnaire. One question asked whether or not they had accepted any money from people other than family members. Jamar answered no. When the Western Union transfer came to light and they saw that he lied on his questionnaire, they had to take action. Both the AD and President were in involved in that decision.

                                · After Martin made his comments during the Syracuse post-game press conference about not thinking what Jamar did was wrong, Mark Emmert, the NCAA president (and KSU alum), called Currie and Schultz and told them to get Frank to back down on his comments.
Not sure what morning show in Wichita she was referring to. Bruce and Bob maybe since Bruce is a "sideline reporter" at the K-State games.

Who knows for sure how accurate any of these observations/comments are.
