  • When this whole thing started wasn't that the direction that everyone thought this thing would go....Four super conferences? It looks like it could come to that in the above scenario.

    • And nobody knew who the fourth would be. The P12 is all there is in the west, although the MWC is trying to push them and could catch them eventually in football if Boise helps bolster and improve some of the others. But that's a ways off if it ever happens. The MWC may be better in basketball already, but football controls everything.

The B1G and the SEC are obviously the two biggest powers. Nobody is leaving the B1G and I'm not sure if anybody would leave the SEC. If they did, it would be for the B1G.

The XII looked to be on it's deathbed at one point but now looks like it could be the one to survive. The ACC still has a fighting chance depending on who bolts and who stays. The BE is dead as a power player. The Grant of Rights in the XII seems to have stabalized everything there and make many believe they're solid and are just waiting to poach from the ACC along with the B1G and SEC. Although, I occassionally hear rumors of the B1G having some interest in KU. If they left, I could see 0U/OSU and Texas try to do something. That would save the ACC.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next, but the B1G isn't done.

      • And the only thing left after these possible moves would be for the 4 super conferences to form their own governing body and leave the NCAA.

          I don't think that'll ever happen.

I hope not. Hopefully they will relieve the NCAA guy from his top position and the NCAA office can start doing what it is supposed to.

                • The NY Post is saying that Creighton will be in the MVC next year and leave the following year. It says that Bulter, Xavier and Dayton will join for next season and will be followed the next year by SLU and CU. Who knows???

Honestly, it would be best for the MVC if CU was around one more year as long as it announced it's intentions of leaving the following season. That would give the MVC a little more time to look at their replacement/expansion options and not be as rushed to fill the spot. It also would put less pressure on the incoming school(s) to get out of their conference on such short notice.

And by brutal, you mean fun, correct? :D

                      • This also slams the door shut on most of the speculative scenarios involving the western A-10 schools moving to the MVC. However, now that the A-10 has lost all of its western schools, will it look west again to preserve its footprint? Would it consider poaching some MVC schools like Bradley and Illinois State, and adding others like Belmont and Murray? What would happen then (besides our fan base collectively driving off a cliff)?

At least next year gives us time to really lobby our neighbor conference to the west (and we'll need to lobby long and hard to get a chance), and if that doesn't work out, gives the MVC time to come up with the best possible plan to move forward.

I still don't understand why the Atl-10 would have any power to take away quality programs from the Valley. The following was done a week or two ago, but that wouldn't have changed much at all. After eventual defections due to football and the new Big East, the Atl-10 would have 9 remaining programs. This is the winning percentage over the last 10 years.

                          VCU .730, WSU .664, UNI .647, St. Joe's .576, SIU .572, MSU .567

                          Richmond .558, GW .556, Ill St .544, RI .517, BU .506, DU .505

                          LaSalle .488, IN St .465, Dukes .432, UE .394, St Bonnie .380, Forham .322

                          Last 15 years:

                          VCU .678, WSU .600, SIU .600, St Joes .586, Richmond .574, MSU .573

                          UNI .566,
                          GW .535, Ill St .522, BU .497, RI .475, DU .471

                          LaSalle .470, In St .468, UE .443, St. Bonnie .442, Dukes .383, Fordham .328

During that 15 years, as Atl-10 members, 2 teams have made the Sweet 16 once each.

During the same 15 years, 5 MVC teams have made the Sweet 16 a total of 6 times.

                          • I haven't heard anything from any actual sources, but there is an MSU fan saying that he's hearing ORU will be the addition.... I can think of at least seven schools I'd add before them and three or four privates.

I'm wondering if this is how the MVC will try to appease WSU by adding a school closer to us than to the east. But personally, I'd rather add by strength than location. If this is how it plays out, I'm disappointed.

                            • If by some stroke of good fortune, the mvc teams trending up start having great seasons along with us, ORU is a good addition. I would like some better schools first too, but if the valley can get stronger in the obvious ways, having another close foe would be very nice.

I'm like you though, I'd rather disregard proximity and just get the right school. Oh well.

                              • I'm in the same boat on this too. ORU would be fine down the road, but I don't think they are the right choice right now. If they were adding 3, then I could see this being just fine. But they aren't. At least I don't think they are.
