For shox baseball I really hope thats where those three end up. Very nice to have KU, KSU, NU, and MU all move to central to northern leagues opposite being in a league central to southern.

Big 12 members hit by economic fallout

Iowa State went ahead with projects after the Fox contract was completed and took out $40 million in bonds based on the deal. Iowa State has invested $5 million in a new video board, $20 million in a football building and an estimated $15 million in a sports complex for track, soccer and softball. The video board project began in July for this football season and the other two projects are under construction.

"The taxpayers of Iowa can't pay if those bonds fall through," a source said Wednesday. "These are real questions, real situations. I'm not sure how (Iowa State) could waive those (legal) rights (to sue the SEC)."

Big East Exit Is Said to Begin for Syracuse and Pittsburgh

Syracuse and Pittsburgh have begun the formal process of leaving the Big East by applying to join the Atlantic Coast Conference, an A.C.C. official with direct knowledge of the applications said Saturday.

The potential move underscores the fragility of the college conference landscape. The official said that at least 10 other universities had reached out to the A.C.C.

Some reports are saying that Syracuse and Pitt have already been accepted by the ACC. There are also reports that Iowa State and Baylor have offered themselves to the Big East should the Big 12(10)(9) dissolve. This is getting to be really complicated. It should become a bit more clear when OU makes it's decision Monday when the Oklahoma Board of Regents meet on Monday.

I think it is a rubber-stamp job if OU wants to leave, but they have to take OSU with them. Now how many conferences want two top 10 football teams or can afford to turn them down?

Texas is fighting tooth and nail to maintain the Big 12(whatever) and to try to keep their 300 million, over 10 years Longhorn network. It isn't drawing that much interest even in Texas. Didn't ESPN learn from ND and I think NBC? I'm not sure of the details but most other conferences won't allow it and it has pretty much destroyed the Big 12.

The money grab of bringing the Texas teams into the Big 8 to form the Big 12 has now come full circle to bite them in the A$$ and spell the end of the conference.

This makes the move by KU and KSU to the BEast look more likely. After the ACC plucks two more FB teams after Pitt and Syracuse, the BEast is going to be a pretty mediocre FB conference. BEast basketball is taking a big hit, too.

Looks like KU and KSU will manage to hook up with a BCS league, but a very watered-down one. They won't be facing nearly as good competition as they had in the B8 or B12.

The BEast will probably maintain its position as "one of the four superconferences" - maybe. If they do, they will be the obvious bottom-feeder.

You are right. Somehow I counted to 4 and had 5 conferences instead of 4. The raid on the BEast ends their BCS participation.

For KSU, their fate was probably inevitable and sealed some time ago. KU should be very nervous. A move to a non-BCS conference affects recruiting in basketball. KU in the BEast would be seen as a second-tier school, where they are now seen as a first-tier school.

After KU's football performance yesterday, when they gave GaTech several NCAA records, their appeal to FB conferences dropped more thn a few notches.

Joining the Big East is gonna strain KU's budget to the breaking point within a half dozen years. They'll probably find a way to get by though.

KSU, on the other hand, is going to be less solvent than Lehman Brothers after a few years in the BE. Football attendance will endure a slow, painful death and they have nothing else to pick up the slack.

It didn't take long for the OT thread, "Should KU and KSU Join the Valley" to take on some actual relevance. KSU fans would hate it, and certainly don't want to hear or consider it, but now it appears to be a legitimate question.

It might make more sense for KU, KSU, ISU, Baylor, and maybe Missouri (depending on who else may want them) to all go to the MWC. If the Big East starts to fall apart, you could expect TCU to jump ship again and, if they'd have them, back to the MWC along with BYU. That would produce a much stronger football/basketball conference than what a watered down Big Least would be. This conference could replace the Big 12 and become part of the BCS.

You have to wonder if the Big 12/MWC (whichever is left standing) is going to prospect for basketball-only members at the end of this process.

WSU, Creighton, SLU and Butler would make for a lovely package deal somewhere.
