So you're saying the Noble Peace Prize should go to "who they like", not deeds?

Holy cow! You didnā€™t call people that disagree with President Obama's policies racists or Nazisā€¦.progress? :D

Of course, not that your comment has anything to do with the topic of this thread.

Politically and practically, the Nobel committee actually did him no favor. If President Obama needs anything now, it is a sense of modesty, a willingness to tack and accept half a loaf, and diminish his grandiosity. His self-worship has created real problems for him and this will only feed into it. His vanity is his Achilles heel. If I were advising him I would tell the President to politely decline the award. I think such an act, heartfelt or not, would help his image. Besides, they will probably give it to him anyway down the road.
True and brilliant. President Obama is one of those rare persons that could do something like decline the award and come out better for it. His popularity is that strong, regardless of what he has or has not accomplished thus far.
I agree with you; however, President Obama would have to be careful if he decided to go this route ā€“ there is potential for blowback. Turning down the Nobel Peace Prize and, in effect, lecturing the Nobel committee for jumping the gun, could itself seem pretty arrogant and narcissistic. "It's too soon for me to get the Nobel Peace Prize" is not necessarily a humble statement. When George C. Scott returned an Oscar, for example, was that taken as an act of humility or supreme arrogance?

It may well be the best play, but I am also assuming that Obama has more humility than many suspect he has and it requires a defter touch at sounding humble than he has usually shown. That being said ā€“ I think he could pull it off nicely and would come out ahead.

Try again...answer the question. No more irrelevant tangents.

But Moose, answer the question. Don't just make a worthless, irrelevent comment. Give a real argument if you can. Make your case with facts and evidence.

What did he actually accomplish in 10-11 days that was worthy of winning the award?

If you have to go before a judge someday and when it comes time for you to present your side of the case just tell the judge you have no facts with which to defend yourself and that the whole case is sour grapes on the part of the plaintiff. See how that works for ya.

A Maureen Dowd article does not count.
That rug really tied the room together.

Is there a list somewhere of who was nominated? I've read that there were 205 nominees (172 individuals and 33 organizatoins).

The nobelprize.org web page says it's restricted.

                      From http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/process.html

                      Are the nominations made public?

The statutes of the Nobel Foundation restrict disclosure of information about the nominations, whether publicly or privately, for 50 years. The restriction concerns the nominees and nominators, as well as investigations and opinions related to the award of a prize.

Iā€™m not sure but recent nominations of certain individuals, who were not ultimately given the award, have been made public ā€“ at least I seem to recall they have. I could be wrong. Why?

That's very convenient, since everyone concerned will be dead by the time they would face personal scrutiny or accountability.

But whatever. If they want to dilute the prestige of their own award, more power to 'em.

Congrats on graduating from Nancy Pelosi University! You have effectively cloned yourself after the most despised politican in the nation. A person who blindly forges ahead with her beliefs, no matter how far off base they really are. And when challenged, she refuses to address the issue in favor of demonizing the entity which dares to question her.

                            Nice work, Marty Pelosi.

Didn't you mean despised by conservatives? Liberal and some moderates love her.

A number of liberal and moderates don't like her either. At one point there were a number of Dems calling for her to step down as Speaker
