Up to two million people marched to the U.S. Capitol today, carrying signs with slogans such as "Obamacare makes me sick" as they protested the president's health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.

The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.

People were chanting "enough, enough" and "We the People." Others yelled "You lie, you lie!" and "Pelosi has to go," referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

Given the size of this demonstration, which exceeded my expectations, there was remarkably (or perhaps not) little universal media coverage.

I don’t know how many people showed up but it was impressive. I've read and heard crowd-size estimates ranging from 30,000 to the 2 million referenced above - the latter seems overly optimistic and the former way low. If I had to guess it was low six figures at least -- which would still be incredibly impressive. Moreover, the protesters, on the whole, did seem to be rather orderly as opposed to the protests we all came to expect from time to time during the Bush Administration (and before Bush, the Reagan Administration).

One homemade sign that caught my eye and made me smile a bit said this: “We are John Galt”.

Based upon various interviews I saw this weekend, this reference to Ayn Rand's character in Atlas Shrugged seems to represent best the spirit of this protest. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the book, in Atlas “productive” members of society (business owners and innovators), lead by Galt, go on strike because their government increasingly asserts control over all industries and everyone's life.

This protest had a strong Libertarian, even more than Conservative, current flowing throughout. This march was sending a message to the Administration and Congress - Republicans and Democrats alike.

I think many are WAY to focussed on the size of the crowd, vs. the importance of the message.

While it's important to note that there were many thousands participating, let's not forget the message that they're delivering.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the major media will focus their attention on the wrong part of the story.

Anyone see that Axelrod stated that the rally was bogus and wasn't representative of true America. AND that they will press forward with the reform legislation in spite of the message.

As long as I am talking about things I have had enough of........

1)I am tired of these Washington talking heads telling me I (and others thinking alike) that we are wrong. We are not wrong, at WORST we differ in how we think things should be done...but we are not WRONG.

2)Is anyone else tired of hearing "If we don't get this done now, we never will....." ?

What the hell does that mean? "Hi, I'm Harry Reid. If we don't shove this legislation down the throats of Americans right now we'll never get the chance again because Americans will throw us out on our collective asses when they realize what we are up to....".

Is their message so weak, so bad that they are convinced that they'll never be voted into power like they are now? Perhaps this is the only time they are really truthful........
