  • North Korea Executes Uncle of Kim Jong Un

North Korea on Friday announced the execution of Kim Jong Un's uncle, calling the leader's former mentor a traitor and "worse than a dog."

The announcement came only days after Pyongyang announced through state media that Jang Song Thaek — long considered the country's No. 2 power — had been removed from all his posts because of allegations of corruption, drug use, gambling, womanizing and leading a "dissolute and depraved life."

The time to worry about North Korea isn't when they make threats of launching nukes, the worry should come when the collapse of their regime is about to happen, which looks closer and closer to happening. These are not good things to be seeing coming out of NK. These advisors were not appointed by Un, but by his father, and Un was never intended to be the leader of NK. His older brother was, and he was outcast because he tried to go to Disney Japan with a fake passport and his father found out. I kid you not.

The military advisors and cabinet held by Il, were the ones still there when he passed, and Un took over. They know that Un is over his head, and has had no grooming to lead a country. They have no confidence in him, and when they start seeing that the right hand man gets executed, what saves them? Pretty much nothing, and this is when there could be a coup, an overthrowing of power, and it will come from the military side. This is when fecal matter hits the fan because at this point, western powers have to think long and hard about the nuclear material that is in NK, and who controls it. It will be a rush to control it, and not just their military, but terrorists etc. Probably not massive invasion type forces, but I would guess a joint operation between ROK and US Special Forces to claim the nuclear material.

Times be a changing, and the uncertainty is high.

The story that is going around is he was purged because he was trying to improve economic development

One South Korean news source reported the Kim's uncle Jang Sung taek is alive and well but provided no additional details.
Multiple other independent source, however, reported Jang has been purged over a dispute about the pace and scope of economic development plus disrespect of Kim Jong Un.

According to usually reliable defector sources, Jang advocated a fast and expansive pace of development similar to that of China. Kim and his chief advisors want a slower, limited pace of development.

Jang reportedly presented his ideas to the Chinese without authorization by his nephew, Kim Jong Un.

Jang has been a consistent influence for modernization and moderation. He also is a proven crook who had been demoted at least twice for corruption by his brother-in-law Kim Chong-il. His status remains unclear, but if he is out of power, Kim Jong Un has come under the influence of hard-line communists for now. That means North Korea will never take advantage of its resources and potential.
He is now being executed because:

A South Korean TV station carried a story that might help explain North Korea's unprecedented treatment of Kim Jong Un's uncle as an object lesson for disloyalty.
According to the report, in early October when internal pressure to purge Chang Sung-taek was becoming intense, one of his close aides fled to China. A former high-ranking army general, the aide was attached to the Central Administrative Department of the Workers Party of Korea, where Chang Sung-taek served as director.

An unidentified source claimed, "This close aide left the country with key documents related to North Korea's nuclear development." The documents are known to contain information on the nuclear materials North Korea has secured, along with information on its nuclear facilities. according to the report.

They also reportedly include account books for the slush funds managed by Chang Sung-taek and Kim Jong Un The source said that the government in Seoul currently has taken the aide into custody but is experiencing difficulties, as China and the United States are also interested.
