      • Have essential workers (nurses, EMTs, truckers, grocery workers, trashmen, letter carriers) experienced a much higher rate of infection than those who have been sheltering in place? Surely that information is available?

        • Is it fairly safe to say at this point that IF we could have properly (if "properly", whatever that is, was ever even really possible) isolated and locked down our most vulnerable, our elderly, infirmed, nursing homes etc, when this first started, then everything else we've done has been a solid over-reaction, if not a catastrophic fail?

Looks like 1/3 of the cases have been nursing home residents and workers. From personal experience, it’s been very difficult not being able to visit a loved one in a local nursing facility... I’m not optimistic I’ll be able to see them in 2020. I understand, respect and accept their caution, but it doesn’t make it any easier. With apologies to some that I have offended on occasion, humor (and of course prayer) is my way of coping with the world.

In at least 14 states, more than half of coronavirus deaths are tied to long-term care facilities for older adults, according to a New York Times database.

I think that the only people harmed were average lower middle income people. They are used to having no money and struggling anyway, so they should be fine. Our valued and cherished politicians, Hollywood elites and important rich people still appear to be doing fine. So I would say that this is anything but a catastrophic fail. And to boot, we were able to unearth new recruits that we know we can count on to rat out those citizens that tend to question dear government and live their lives without regard for other's demands. So, all in all, I would say this has all been pretty successful.

                    • Interesting conclusion...

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) found over 450 dead crows on I-35 this past week, and there was concern that they may have died from the Coronavirus.

A veterinary epidemiologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was NOT Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The cause of death was actually from vehicular impacts. However, during analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws. By analyzing these paint residues it was found that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by cars.

KDOT then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills.

The Ornithological Behaviorist quickly concluded that when crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow to warn of danger.

They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah","Cah" not a single one could shout "Truck"!!!

                              • This editorial would seem to support both positions:
                                https://www.japantimes.co.jp/opinion.../#.Xsq9JGhKhPY

They point out what Wufan says, there is a long history of mistrust and dislike. But it also support's Melvin's position in that China sees a reset in their relationship with Japan as a potentially important strategic imove, therefore they seem to be wanting to do some small things to try to build a better relationship.
