Late 70s A Star is Born, Semi-Tough & Convoy completed an eclectic trifecta of completely unrelated and dare I say diverse box office hits that cannot be seen today.


Convoy was a huge hit in the Soviet Union and Japan, for completely unrelated reasons.


Ride like the Wind will always be my favorite walk out music.

He was also quite the generous man and gave a lot back.

This one hits me a little harder as Mutombo was such a likeable guy and a huge part of my childhood. He was definitely one of my five favorite non Bulls players as a kid.

He was also quite the generous man and gave a lot back.

To go with his generous reputation, there was a foundation that Mutombo was known for by those who knew him. One of his most emotional life experiences, was visiting The Holy Land places where Jesus walked.

I don't think anyone would have picked Pete Rose out of lineup and said that guy will become the All-Time MLB hits leader.

Rose broke Ty Cobb's hallowed record on Sept. 11, 1985, with a single against the San Diego Padres for his 4,192nd hit. He would play just one more season, finishing his career with 4,256 hits.

Decades later, Rose remains atop the career hits list. Only Derek Jeter (3,465), Albert Pujols (3,384) and Paul Molitor (3,319) have even come within 1,000 hits of Rose's record in the time since it was set -- and none seriously challenged the mark.

I don't think Pete was accused of ever betting on games while he was a player and if he did, the way he played he would not be betting against his team. As a manager, he claims he never bet on his team losing as a manager. But he denied he gambled on baseball for 15 years before coming clean. That lack of integrity and character may have hurt him as much or more than the gambling itself. If he had immediately come clean and show some remorse and contrition things may have not gone so badly for him. But he has no one but himself to blame.

Whether or not the veterans committee and/or MLB will have a change of heart now that he is gone remains to be seen. Seems to me the man has paid what he owes and perhaps should be admitted to the Hall of Fame posthumously. You would be hard pressed to find anyone who played the game harder or with more passion. We all know that their are current members of the Hall who don't exactly qualify for sainthood.
