  • Finally got a break in the snow here. We saw a couple of cyclists along the river on trail bikes plowing through 4+ inches of snow along the bike path, or more likely along the path they were creating.

So this was no excuse Saturday as the wife and I headed out for a short ride before the game. Not gonna lie, pretty chilly out, but we found a nice neighborhood to bike and some surrounding areas where the streets were awesome. About 35 degrees and a llittle windy. But the leg warmers (again) are the best thing I've encountered since I started bicycling in the cold. Had enough of a good time that we actually missed the first part of the game, but it all worked out OK in the end. Couple of nice days here in a row (I hope) to get a few more rides in. Not a super long ride, only 11 miles, but didn't want to miss the entire game. Hope all are well!

    • Anotther 14 miles today. Weather was not too bad. Either I'm really getting used to cold weather riding, or the leg-warmer/compression pants/jacket combo makes a significant difference. Roads were pretty clear, but there are still places I would not attempt to navigate because of ice. 25 miles for the month.

      • 34° right now. Snow is melting off of the streets. Thats the good news. Up to 8" of snow expected overnight. Guess I gotta keep using the trainer.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Sorry to hear. At least you don't have to worry about traffic and hand signaling.

          • Two decent days of outdoor bicycling here. Had to cut the rides short as I'm pretty busy at work. So only getting an hour in each of the last two days. Monday was awesome. 55 degrees and sunny. Still lots of places a road bike couldn't go because of snow and ice. Today, those paths were clear and just full of standing water. An almost 20 mph headwind did NOT make today's ride as enjoyable as Mondays. 13 miles each of the last days so I'm well at 51 miles for the month. Next couple of days promise much cooler weather as MVJ pointed out. Hope everyone is well and healthy.

            • Front moving north, just an inch of snow expected with a bunch of rain. Maybe the rain will clear the paths and I can get back outside!

              • FInally found some time and decent weather to get back outside. By decent, I mean, 36-37 degrees, high clouds, and north winds. So a bit chilly, but it beats the on-off showers/flurries that were in the area the last few days. We got in 15 miles, and the toes were the only part that were a little chilly. Rode out to the "natural" portion of the redbud trail, which still had bits of snow and plenty f mud on it. 66 miles for the month outdoors. Hope all are well.

                • Sunny weather locally means bike time outdoors. Wish MVJ could get some snow melt. Looking at these pics, it doesn't even look like its 47 degrees outside with a chilly breeze. Still, got in 14.5 miles in just over an hour away from work.

This next picture is near a point of the Simm Park gold course. This spot holds incredible memories for me. About 30 years ago a friend (Dave) and I went bicycling and we hit this spot (which looked remarkably different back then) between 10pm and midnight in the summer and it was just pitch black and we could barely see anything. That's when I came to love bicycling. I was strictly a swimmer/basketball person at the time (3-5 hrs a day of ball). The next day (Sunday) Dave took me to the Wichita River Festival and we did the 25 mile bicycle tour and I rode this crappy bike in a pair of shorts and a tank top. Police escort led a procession of hundreds of riders out of town through what is now Delano, and at some point I was so moved (excited) by all the bike tech and gear, that I rode off ahead of everyone and got back to LD Stadium 10 minutes before all the other cyclists. I visited a local bike shop the next day and bought a nice road bike.

I still love bicycling along the river. One thing I really like are all the little "ramps" where you can hit a steep incline of 10-15% (and sometimes gradual inclines). They're pretty wel scattered along the route. Hope everyone is healthy and the cyclists find a way to get out and enjoy some of this weather.

                  • Like everybody else, I'm ducking and dodging the cold weather. It's been really cold (for us) and I have about 75 miles in for the month. We're supposed to be in the low 30's tonight, but I am going to try to see if I can get a short ride in.

And like JV, I have been really busy at work. Lots of work came in over the holidays and I'm just getting dug out from under the work.

I'm looking forward to the holidays (over this weekend) and I am hoping to get 70 miles or so in over the 3 days. Weather looks cooperative (50's), Saturday's ride was 18 miles in low-50's temperatures.

                    • Mid 40's trails mostly clear, did 20 miles today. I biked around a local lake, three laps. There were only a few icy patches. Several parts of the trail were narrowed because of ice and snow- mainly in wooded areas. All on all great day.

                        • 93 miles for the month outdoors after another 14.5 miles this afternoon. Only downside is we usually end up staying late to finish work for the day. Was glad to hear MVJ finally got outdoors. Did the indoor trainer one winter and it just wasn't for me. Ended up selling it on ebay in the late summer/fall.

                          • Going to be riding the river path tomorrow afternoon (I’ll be looking for you JV), with a quick sprint over to CKA to catch the Shocks tomorrow night after the ride. Got the new spike pedals on the bike today. Excited to try those out tomorrow.

You get to attend the game in person???

                              • Yeah, I saw the Cincinnati game in person and am going to the Tulsa game tonight. It seems like WSU is just handing out the tickets a week or two in advance of the games, so I don’t know anything about future games. To be honest, the current fan experience kind of sucks. They have a lot of ushers whose sole job is to walk up and down the aisles and make sure no one pulls their masks down. I’m sitting in row 31 with only 1500 people in the arena. When there’s no atmosphere like the last game, the experience is just as good watching on TV where you can at least see the game a lot better. There are a couple of improvements though... no metal detectors to enter and e-tickets.
